The operation, which the Trump administration authorized in retaliation for a chemical attack killing scores of civilians this week, dramatically expands U.S. military involvement in Syria and exposes the United States to heightened risk of direct confrontation with Russia and Iran, both backing Assad in his attempt to crush his opposition.
The attack may put hundreds of American troops now stationed in Syria in greater danger. They are advising local forces in advance of a major assault on the Syrian city of Raqqa, the Islamic State?s de facto capital.

While we are a little uninformed of whats going on at this point.. One thing you have to remember, is even Obama himself stated very clearly that a chemical attack by Syria would be the red line crossed.
To be fair, IMO Obama was a bit weak on his "red line" because Syria did in fact use chemical weapons previously and Obama did not act on it. Obviously, Russia complicated things but in the end Assad previously used chemical weapons and we did nothing. They crossed the red line and we did nothing.
I think it's too early to say one way or another if this was the right call or not. I dislike Trump and I do think he's a fool, but we can't just say "don't use chemical weapons or else" then they do it and we do nothing which in turn makes our warning meaningless.In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment
