Ok I downloaded it , modified it and went to upload through FTP and couldnt. CAn i do this throush SSH logged in a root?

Are you editing the httpd.conf? If so just use a program to edit it, use pico or vi

locate httpd.conf
pico /path/to/httpd.conf

when you finish, hit cntrl-o to write the file then cntrl-x to exit pico
