Anybody use a laptop as a desktop computer?

Getting a new PC, wondering it a new laptop i7/16Gb is enough to not bother getting a new PC, too.

Do some Adobe Suite (Illustrator, PS, AE and PR) work, other than that mostly programming in VSB and whatnot.

Anybody just connected their laptop to external screens and stopped bothering with desktops?

I have always used a laptop with a big external screen and an external keyboard as my main computer. When I have some holly days, I can easily take my "main" computer with me...

If you need computing power - you should get a desktop. If not - a laptop with all external accessories can be good enough. However, this setup will be more costly and very limited in a future upgrade of components.

Yeah, I've been reading tests and reviews the past two week or so. There's mixed opinions, but it seems the overall opinion is that is is almost starting to even out.

Obviously the laptop route is somewhat more expensive, but with BFCM around the corner, I'm going to grab me a deal or two ;)

I've noticed I have not really been upgrading any components (except for changing HDD to SSD) on my current old i3/16Gb Win7 PC, which runs a LOT better than my much newer Win10 Laptop.

My current PC runs everything pretty great, except rendering of After Effects videos which take for hours.

I been laptop only user since year 2011. Still, i miss ability to change broken part easily if something goes wrong compared to laptop when something is broken cant be fixed.

Yes, I have a laptop with 2 external monitors with a graphics adapter and dock. It makes it so easy when I travel and can just pack up the laptop

I always carry and external 24 Inch monitor in my suitcase when I travel. When customs asks me funny questions I tell them the display on my laptop is too small.

I have two PCs in my home office here, but I have a third work station set up in the Master Bedroom on a desk there.

I use a Surface Laptop with a Surface docking station. I have the Internet and two monitors hooked up through the docking station, and only one cord to the laptop itself. It's nice. It's like having a full PC but I can pick it up and go at a moment's notice.

That is what I do to watch NFL and NBA games and the video quality is great on my projector but the text quality is nowhere near as good as my monitors.

We're swapping out desktops for laptops as everyone is now remote. Lots of high end laptops out there, just not all that cost effective...when compared to what you'd get for a desktop at the same price point.

I travel with one or two 15" usb monitors, very light and easy to extend the laptop display if I think I'll need the real estate on a trip.

Laptop only for over 10 years, of which 8 on mac laptops, but my computing needs are pretty limited. I have a gigantic widescreen but take my laptop anywhere I need to work, and it's great not having to worry about keeping 2 versions of everything on 2 separate computers.

I use Laptop only since 2002 wow time flies. I get a new one every 4 years and its always a Gaming Laptop with separate Graphic card. All is smooth but after around 2 years its start that things are not that fast any more even when I clean everything. Setup is big screen, mouse and keyboard.

Lenovo laptops have perfect docks (either native or USB-C), where you connect your peripherals (monitors, keybord, mouse, etc) and only drop your laptop on top of it / next to it. So you can disconnect your laptop whenever you need it in a second without having to deal with a bunch of cables.

I used to keep the laptop under my desktop, with screen, keyboard, and mouse connected to it. The laptop was not great, so I couldn't do any heavy stuff on it. However, it was much more comfortable to use it in that way. And in case I needed to take my laptop with me, the only thing I needed to do is to disconnect a few wires.

you can upgrade but the main situation is if it goes, you replace just the card...

I7, 16gb and try get a ssd, not that a normal drive gives any issues on editing film or pics, gaming, on a laptop especially with decent cooling.

i've been using laptop for over 10 years and i do video editing and design that demand lots of resources. just check that the laptop you choose meet your needs

Make sure it has Windows 11 on it or is capable of doing so. If not you're going to need to do so in a few years

Going forward I will ditch my computer. But for now, I prefer to keep it. When I'm traveling I plug into my keyboard and 34" curved monitor with my laptop. So it's like I'm at home.
