Trump ready to 'solve' North Korea problem without China

US President Donald Trump has said the United States will "solve" the nuclear threat from North Korea, with or without China's help.

"If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will. That is all I am telling you," he said in an interview with UK newspaper the Financial Times.

Pressed on whether he thought he could succeed alone, he replied: "Totally."

Mr Trump was speaking ahead of a scheduled visit from Chinese President Xi Jinping this week.

So far under all the preceding Presidents, North Korea has grown as a military threat and the Presidents did nothing to stop it. Now North Korea is on the verge of developing missiles that can hit Japan and eventually the US. It has been on the front foot militarily even to the extent of sinking Sout h Korean vessels. So before the Liberals start condemning Trump, he's doing something others ignored and even promoted.

The US's biggest weapon over China is trade. Do to China what we do to other countries like Iraq, Iran, Russia and China has to back down. They can't afford trade embargoes or any slowing down of sales to the West. There's no need for warships, just tell China not to fall out with it's biggest customer.

After his recent comments, I gave this some thought this morning.

Frankly, North Korea is really a paper tiger. They have a large military, but it's poorly armed, poorly trained, and has very little ability to project military strength past it's border. They might be able to launch a missile strike on the US, but I find that highly unlikely - sending a large missile a few hundred miles into the sea is one thing but sending a missile thousands of miles to strike is a city is a vastly different thing. And even then, if we thought they were going to strike the US with a missile launch, we would have days of warning and enough time to take it out before it launched.

North Korea might be able to invade South Korea, but all of the factors of the Korean War in the 1950s has changed. North Korea no longer enjoys the support of China or Russia, and the South Korea of today is much more advanced than the South Korea of the 1950s not to mention full American support including boots already on the ground there.

The North Korean navy isn't a blue water navy, and could not strike out against the United States. It's not like NK could send a missile frigate and sail it to San Diego; It just can't do that. At the same time, the United States can do this to North Korea at will.

It would be very similar to what happened to Iraq when the US attacked them. Iraq had the world's 4th largest army at the time, but they were poorly trained, poorly lead, and had weapons that were in poor repair - not to mention a lack of communications. The power that the larger countries have - US, China, Russia - is staggering. The larger countries can push a button and launch a missile from three thousand miles away and destroy anything they want. The US can launch an airplane from North Dakota and fly it all the way to North Korea and destroy a building or a tank (or a dozen tanks) and fly all the way home without North Korea knowing what hit them.

this problem will be resolved one day but not from outside. it will happen from inside and that would be the cleanest and most logic way.

china was for many centuries a closed country but now chinese people are travelling free all over the world. you can not explain "free" people to support unfreedom. it is just a question of time and will not need bombs.
