WASHINGTON ? Mike Flynn, President Donald Trump?s former national security adviser, has told the Federal Bureau of Investigation and congressional officials investigating the Trump campaign?s potential ties to Russia that he is willing to be interviewed in exchange for a grant of immunity from prosecution, according to officials with knowledge of the matter.

He has made the offer to the FBI and the House and Senate intelligence committees though his lawyer but has so far found no takers, the officials said.

Mr. Flynn?s attorney, Robert Kelner, declined to comment.

It wasn?t clear if Mr. Flynn had offered to talk about specific aspects of his time working for Mr. Trump, but the fact that he was seeking immunity suggested Mr. Flynn feels he may be in legal jeopardy following his brief stint as the national security adviser, one official said.

Mr. Flynn was forced to resign after acknowledging that he misled White House officials about the nature of his phone conversations with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the presidential transition.

Just because he has offered this doesn't mean he has anything real on Trump or a high ranking member of Trump's administration. He may be just trying to protect his own ass. He wouldn't be asking for immunity if he were innocent of wrong doing so clearly he is afraid he is going to be prosecuted. However, that he has found no takers for his offer could mean he doesn't have much to offer. Normally, they only offer immunity to those people who can give them information that can really help them.

It could also be that they don't know exactly what he can give them yet so they are taking some time to consider what he has to offer.

Either way, it doesn't look good for Trump. Flynn is clearly not interested in taking one for the team.

The FBI would only grant immunity if there was a "bigger" or "many" fish to fry. If he lies his deal is done and the book gets thrown at him. If he fails to deliver he gets no immunity and gets the book thrown at him.

I did a bit more reading on this.. Flynn's attorney didn't go public on purpose. The WSJ somehow found out Flynn was looking for a deal and the reporter reached out for comment to Flynn's attorney.

Basically the press release by Flynn's attorney is the reply to the request for comment.. Obviously they knew the gig was up and it was gonna be a story so they went public.

This might be true. But if this was the case, why ask for an immunity deal? With what little we know, it seems to me worst case he has violated a few laws. There is no laws about a private citizen speaking to Russian government employees. At the bare minimum it looks like he has violated some old law about private citizens making deals on behalf of the United States with foreign countries. He would get into some trouble for this, maybe a fine; No matter what his government career is over.

However.... The NSA and the CIA know exactly what has happened here. Any and all communication Flynn has had with the Russians has been documented. They know what happened. We know Flynn was knee deep in Russia; We know he was paid to speak at the Russia Today (RT) dinner. Think about this for a moment - A member of the Defense Intelligence Agency was paid to give a speech to the Russian propaganda arm. You just KNOW Flynn was into something.

IF Flynn says "Trump ordered me to do this" or "Trump was working directly with the Russians" you know this house of cards will come crashing down hard.

Like you said, these things sometimes move slowly so it is possible he told them what he has to tell them and they are looking at the information to make a decision on whether or not to offer him immunity.

I have said all along that when it comes to the Russian involvement in the election there is a lot of smoke there so there is likely some fire, but it may be hard to find out just where the fire is.

One thing is for sure. If Flynn has something very damaging to Trump or a senior member of his staff it will disastrous for him.

This might be true. But the Hillary investigations were a waste of time and nothing more than a witch hunt. With Benghazi it was a terrorist attack we didn't see coming, and nothing we could have done would have changed the outcome - we knew that when we started the investigation and we knew no crimes were committed. It was the same with the email investigation - There are no laws that says the Secretary of State cannot send classified email via a private server. These were witch hunts in which we knew from the beginning there was no wrong doing and no crime. These investigations were not looking to put anyone in jail, but were a political weapon.

We know for a fact that the Russians influenced our election. We know for a fact that the Trump campaign had multiple contacts to the Russian government at nearly all levels. We can go further and say the Trump campaign was communicating directly with Wikileaks; The Trump campaign had advanced knowledge what was coming next with Wikileaks. We also know a member of the Trump campaign - Roger Stone - was directly communication with the Russian hackers.

It's only a matter of time before the FBI starts putting people under oath and asking questions.

I was a child when Watergate happened, but from what I read it was stunning. It seems to me this is exactly what is happening now.

Even if none of this is true and all we are doing is connecting imaginary dots that do not exist, this will hang over the Trump administration until the end of his term.
