Does design affect conversion? - GoFuckYourself.com

I'm not talking about the mechanics of the page (which obviously affects conversions) but rather just the pure aesthetics of a page.

Right now, I try to put together a page that does what it needs to do, then tweak it out a bit so it looks good to me.

Does anybody find that it matters if a page looks professional or amateurish? Do colors seems to affect anything? Does it matter what you're promoting? Do some niches/programs etc. work better with certain kinds of designs?

I realize this is a fairy broad question, but any input would be appreciated.

i don't think there is a standard on what works better.

clean design and good navigation should get the job done.
