But you still pay on the 15th when you file an extension right? Last year i filed an extension, and I still had to pay on the same day my "estimated tax amount" according to my accountant. So whats the point of filing an extension if you still have to pay on the same day?

You only have to pay a portion of it and pay interest on the remaining.

I payed a dollar and estimated a whole lot more. I only needed another week or so, so the penalty not that bad.

Am I the only one that pays his taxes on time?

I even had a nasty bill this year, but... took out some cash from my investment acct to cover it.

If I filed an extension, god knows I'd wait till the last day to pay... glad one part of my life doesnt revolve aroudn procrastination

Yeah you can get an extension to file, but not an extension to pay.
If you underpay when you file the extension then you have to pay the interest and penalties that accrue until you do file and make your final payment.
In a situation like Labret's where you just need another week to scrape up the cash its not a big deal, but don't think that you can keep filing extensions forever, it'll cost you big $$ in the long run.

I mailed off my final payment and return for 2002 yesterday.

My ass hurts
