Get 1 regular seat, and fit into it until u get of the ground, the just go to the washroom, lots of room there :)

Haha, that's one idea. I could wedge myself into, say, an 18" seat but I am worried about causing discomfort for the people on either side of me.

It depends on how much you let me charge you!! LOL!!! (ok, Im kidding).....45 mbps would fall somewhere between a boatload and an assload. It ain't quite a shitload, but its a good sized account :)

How is that for vague! :1orglaugh

Cracker Barrell in Macon or Perry?? I figured that they are still in Middle Georgia and they are the only two that I remember :)

One more place to eat: Tell them to take Hwy 49S to Montezuma, Georgia (about 12 miles from Fort Valley) and go eat at "Yoder's"...it is a Minnonite Resturaunt and is fantastic :)

I can give them a bunch more if I know what route they are taking!!

Where are you flying FROM? I know you're flying to Lauderdale...

I fly about once a week so I know pretty much how all airlines are set up with what you can and cannot do with upgrades and how they configure their planes...

and I also get this really nifty newsletter from this site I actually pay to belong to... Mr. Upgrade... so if you can tell me where you are starting out, how many connections you are or arent willing to make, I'll tell you what's out there now based on what I get from the airlines and the site...

Hi, Kimmykim, I'd be leaving from Cleveland, OH. Ft. Lauderdale is just one possibility, there are also major ports at Miami and Port Canaveral. If Mr. Upgrade can tell me how to wedge my fat ass into a modern airplane for a reasonable price, I'd like to hear it :)

You are hardly a *real* person. Probably 90+% of all people fit into airline seats just fine.

6'3" is hardly average or normal. 325 is not even close to average or normal.

How can you expect to be treated as such?

They're just outside of Macon.

They poked around Bluebird today. Said they got to see the bus behind a fence, but they wouldn't let them near it until tomorrow. They were doing finally cleaning on it today. My dad said it looked like a bunch of ants on a picnic basket.

Yo PK...

Dont want to keep hijacking the thread....ff they are going to be in the area for a couple of days drop me an email and I will give you some good places to hit, seriously. I know this area like the back of my hand :)

I asume you are talking about the jump seats........ yes, still available but now most airlines take you on if you are invited by a cabin or cockpit crew member. Don't know about the US though. Things didn't change to much around here on the aircraft itself, security before the aircraft (airport) has tightened up though.

Can you fly from Columbus instead? If so Amwest has the best upgrade deal in the business right now -- a maximum of $150 per flight for upgrades at the gate -- for instance on my trip to Vancouver last month instead of paying 1600 for first class seats, they cost about 550 round trip this way... Amwest hubs in Columbus for now but they wont do it much longer -- you will need to get to the airport a bit early since they do the paid upgrades at checkin at the same time they do the Elite upgrades to first class...

I also did an inquiry on the Mr Upgrade web site so let's see what comes back from them as well -- you might also want to look at ticket wholesalers or possibly AMEX miles if you have AMEX -- even if you don't buy alot with it you can buy points straight from AMEX and convert them to miles on most of the majors --

Hey, how's it going? Hopefully these people have given you enough ideas!

Since I'm an airline pilot by day and a webmaster on the side, I'll throw in my :2 cents: . I've ridden on every major US airline at one time or another in the past few years. I can tell you most of them use the same seats. You will either ride on a Boeing, Mcdonald Douglas, or Air Bus usually and all the seats come standard from them (with the exception of first class of course). Now if you end up on a Regional Jet (pretty common these days) those seats tend to be a bit smaller depending on the configuration. The one good thing about Regional Jets is they usually have 1 seat and then 2 seats with the asile between them. Why is this good? You won't feel like you are crowding anyone!
Things to think about. Like Kimmy said, you could fly out of Columbus. I would also check into Ackron on Air Tran.
If you do decide to use Continental out of Cleveland, you will have the option to choose your seat before you board the plane. All of their tickets are E-tickets now. When you show up you will put your ID into the check in machine and it will ask if you want to change your seat. It will bring up a seating arangement and let you pick where you want to sit. I usually don't care where I'm located in the airplane as long as the seat next to me is empty :)
Like someone said above......don't count on getting a free upgrade with Continental unless you are a frequent flyer. I've ridden in the back so many times and have NEVER seen a first class seat go empty. They usually start with the Platinum members, then Gold members, then on down to Silver members.
I guess what I'm saying is, the only way for you to GUARANTEE that you will not feel smooshed or crowded is to buy 2 seats. You can always gamble and hope the plane is not full, then pick an area that has 2 seats open.

Hope that helps!

I work for Continental. I flew the ATR for a while and now I fly the EMB 135/145. Also a CFI, CFII.

How about you?

i'd rather be ab-normal any fuckin day dude.....the day i become normal in any one shape or form is the day i will kill myself cause life will be boring :)....

also isnt like over 50% of the worlds pop obese now ??? so doesnt that mean fat is normal and people who arent abese some kind of freak of nature ?

ah who cares i am no thin person but hey gotta live with it and just suck the gut in while flying or do as someone else said take a mag into the shitter and enjoy....get in quick tho before some animal pisses everywhere but in the fucking toilet......dirty fuckers

LeeNoga 04-15-2003 08:38 AM

I would take a flight that is not busy, off times, red eyes and do the 2 seat thing, if you don't have a neighbor your set. If you fly the most economical best priced flights you will get all screaming babies, you may want to pay a little more, take a less crowded flight, take an odd time out, and you should be fine.

Nobody worries about SARS? They are saying the germ can live for 3 hours after its released.

MikeFold 04-15-2003 08:38 AM

SpaceAce:
Also Platinum Elite in Cleveland....

Upgrades on Continental are gone 24-48 hours prior, so that is usually out unless you know someone at Continental...
:Graucho

Also, make SURE you do not book the ERJ (yes, there is a nonstop of 3+ hours and that is a small Embraer 50 seater) I swear those are 15 inch seats, even the single ones down the one side.....

Continental has no non stops to FL on any 757 or 767 that I know of anymore, just a 737-500 , you would need to connect in Newark, so maybe check the other airlines out of Hopkins for the larger planes and then you may get the upgrade at the gate.

Continental is very accomodating usually, but I don't think they have a suitable flight to FL.

Hope that helps a little.

What KK and Airplay said is probably the hot setup...
Check Akron Canton and AMWest out of Columbus....

AmWest upgrades can usually be bought at check in..

I started out on a little seneca 4 (private), got my B-737 rating, got a seat at Virgin, offered an MD-11 rating and seat (was on the famous Albatros), done that but City Bird went bananarama :-) Now i do alot of freelance, B-737 and smaller jets. You think i got any chanse in the us with 737 and MD-11 ratings?
How does that ATR handle? Alot of guys told me it's a pretty nervous bird.

3 out of 7 over 90% is pretty damn good. Overhere we have 14 (two segments of 7) devided over 18 months followed by 18 months practice... the usuall, from cessna up to seneca 5 and then some MCC training and then hope some airliner will take you and pay for your type rating.

For domestic trips I usually recommend elite status upgrades or miles. You can buy CO miles, via AMEX Membership rewards points, if it's worth it to you.

Sorry no magic bullet.

yeah my bro is a geek with a cool job :) lol

right now hes got the most ratings at his current job so when he gets sick of doing charter flights in there cheiften and crap he'll apply for some of the regional airliners then its all go

going by how fast Virgin is expanding in australia and how there advertising the youngest pilots in the industry my bro might even get a spot in there straight away....all comes down to the multi hours tho

The ATR was a great bird to fly. I think I flew it through every sort of weather possible. It has a great radar for picking your way through those wonderful thunderstorms in Houston on a hot summer day. I've had several inches of ice covering the windshield flying up over Canada and it keeps on truckin. Coming out of Louisiana one day we hit some severe turbulence and it hung in there with the best of them. I'd love to still fly it, but our company went all jet. The ERJ is a lot of fun, but it seems like we push more buttons than we fly. Just my :2 cents:
As far as the flying goes in the US. I'd say you'd be a long shot. Most of the airlines are really hurting right now and they are swamped with resumes. Who knows though........anything is possible!

Heh, that ATR sounds like an MD-11 :) The City Bird MD-11 (Albatros), with glass cockpit, was a pilots dream to fly. We had an windshear in final inbound to Punta Cana once, i pulled her up and that thing reacted so fast..... felt like i was handling an ultra light hehe. Know what you mean about the ERJ, now a days handflighing is becoming more rare every day..... that's why i like to be inbound to those little airports like Africa has. In Europe it's all about catching the needle :glugglug just relax and watch that bird line itself up and keep an eye on the glide slope without touching it, i freakin hate it. As for the US..... oh well, i'll just keep driving the bus outhere then.

VirtuMike 04-15-2003 11:46 PM

Have to warn you - if you're flying Continental out of Cleveland, ALWAYS look for Mike Fold in first class. That crazy SOB is up there on about half the flights I take through CLE. You'll know him by his Bangwangesque moustache and his mullet. Plus he smells like dryrot Playboys and whisky.

So when you get on the plane, yell out "MIKEFOLD!" just before takeoff and see if he's there. You never know.

Hey Airplay, it's entirely possible that you've chauffeured me around the sky. Thanks!

I could be wrong but either way you might want to check this out. As I understood it some of the airlines that were starting to require larger people to buy two tickets actually had an interesting policy about it. I believe that if the flight ended up not being fully booked or there were empty seats on the plane that you could get a refund for the second seat you purchased immediately after the flight. That is something that you might want to ask about, hope I helped about and if you will please post and let everyone know what you decided to do and who things went and what type of deal you found out, or even if what I mentioned is true, I'm sure all of us would appreciate the info. Good luck bro!
