The Next Baghdad Bob

With Baghdad Bob gone into early retirement, the next clown is at the podium spewing fiction.

Syrian Ambassador Imad Moustapha

"We are not harboring any members of Saddam's regime."

"We do not have weapons of mass destruction in Syria."

"We do not support terrorism."

"We are not assisting the Iraqi regime."

"Syria is a respectable member of the international community."

"There is no home for Hamas or Hezbollah in Syria."

"We are not holding any of Saddam's stashed millions."

Is this the dude that was on meet the press?

He impressed me with his strong arguments. He raised the very valid issue of Israel stockpiling nuclear weapons. Why does the US go after speculative nations and not the ones that are right under their nose (North Korea and Israel come to mind).

And so what if Syria has Saddam or any of his hommies. Didn't the US want him to go into exile? Wasn't his exile the last chance at preventing the war?

I just dont get it.

Perhaps I'm not watching enough Fox News.

First off, it isn't a matter of just going after anyone who has or is developing nuclear/chemical/biological weaponry. You can't seriously be suggesting that the United States should view Israel as being on the same threat plane as Saddam's Iraq. At least not where the USA is concerned. Where North Korea is concerned, they already have the weaponry which precludes actions like were taken with Iraq. The idea with Iraq was to not let yet another hostile nation acquire the nuclear blackmail card.

Second, exile was his last chance to prevent the war, as you said. Once the war has started, it's too late. Tough shit.

They'll all back down once they realize they won't stay in power if they fuck with the US,
North Korea is being very quite since the war started. i believe our show of force and how quickly the military controlled iraq has the other countries biting their lips.

i feel very confident that there won't be a major terroist attack in a very longtime 5-10 years.. seriously

Oh so just because Israel isnt a threat to the US or anyone but the palestinians today, they should be overlooked? While they are at it, perhaps they could do the palestinians the favour of liberation also.

Yeah, your right, too late for him to exile. I mean, the US even gave him 48 hours to do it! How long does the world need to wait for the US / UK to find weapons of mass destruction? I mean, whats the hold up? CIA can't get anything over there fast enough?

I WANT TO BELIVE!

We've caught tons of flak because some people claim Saddam was never a real threat to the USA. One of the thing heard again and again is that Saddam has done nothing to the USA, but you think it is more acceptable or a better idea to take action against a country that is a supporter, an ally and a friend? A country that not only has done nothing to the USA but doesn't talk about attacking us or stirring up hatred for us inside their borders?

You might have a point with your 48 hours comment except that it's total bullshit without the tiniest basis in reality. Other than that, it's right on. That last 48 hours was just the final 48 hours. He's had 12 years of warnings to stop fucking around and months and months of warning about what was coming this time. There were calls for his resignation/exile for many weeks immediately preceeding the action in Iraq. Just because he was given one final warning at -48 hours doesn't mean he only had 48 hours.

I guess I should also point out that 48 hours was ample time for him to get out if he intended to do so.

kad,
Give me a fucking break. It's been less then a month. Do you think they are there to inspect or fight? Get real. I agree if they don't find the weapons it's a HUGE black eye. But for christs sake give them a little fucking time man.

The UN had 12 Years!

Who are the soldiers in Baghdad fighting? It sure as hell aint the looters. They have all the time in the world to run around showing Geraldo all the palaces and bunkers and whatever, but still haven't dug up even one peice of solid evidance of weapons.

The fact that the head Iraqi science dude gave himself up, yet still says Iraq has nothing hiding says a lot to me. Why, now that he is (presumably) free of Saddams grip, why wouldn't he spill the jizz? I mean, surly he would be able to walk free if he could tell the US where all the weapons are. Ford motors might even buy him a new car!

I think the US is working is fuckn sack off to find something they can show the world to justify the occupation.

This is a pretty standard line of BS. How they treated Geraldo when he was there has nothing to do with finding weapons. There's no possible comparison of any sort. That is a very weak leg to try and prop your argument up on.

"Who are they fighting?" Does this really even need to be addressed? You know better.

Oh, an Iraqi has told us there are no hidden weapons. My, that really is egg on our faces. I guess all the soldiers can come home, now.

It would be nice to find what we thought was there, but who really cares? Not me. The job is done, now, what we do or don't find won't make a difference. If he really didn't have anything to hide and he was just playing games for the past decade, he is still responsible for what has happened. All he had to do was open the doors and stand aside while the inspection teams did their work and this would have been settled years ago. That is, if he had nothing to hide.

I really love this attitude that since we haven't found anything in a WHOLE month, there must be nothing there. How well could you hide things if you had 12 years to do it? Iraq is no Russia, but there is an awful lot of space to hide shit in that desert.

But Colin Powell already knows where they are! Thats what he told (and showed) the UN. Its not hard to find something when you already know where it is and you have almost unlimited access to those places.

His arguments are only strong if one assumes that international relations are primarily based on the concept of "fairness". They're not. Such an argument is only as good as the powers-that-be permit it to be.

North Korea is on "the list".
Israel is not.
