Seems the city of San Francisco just sued Drumpf. LOL.

San Francisco sued President Donald Drumpf on Tuesday, claiming an executive order that cuts funding from immigrant-protecting "sanctuary cities" is unconstitutional and a "severe invasion of San Francisco's sovereignty."

The federal government cannot "put a gun to the head of localities," City Attorney Dennis Herrera said, arguing that the order violates states' rights and the law.

The complaint, filed in federal district court, names Drumpf and his administration and claims the president is trying to coerce local authorities into abandoning sanctuary city policies, which San Francisco has adopted.

I disagree with this.

It is not up to the San Francisco police department to enforce federal law. Nor can they be required to. Local law enforcement handles local law enforcement problems, federal law enforcement handles federal issues. The FBI isn't tasking with handing out speeding tickets, nor should they be required to. It's not what they are paid to do.

The local PD in San Francisco cannot run around and take care of federal issues. They do not have the man power, nor do they have the money. If they were to arrest every illegal immigrant they came across they would be completely overwhelmed.

Here in California we give out driver's licenses to anyone who lives here - even if they are an illegal immigrant. On the face of it this sounds utterly stupid. However, if you think about it for a moment it makes a lot of sense. If an illegal immigrant cannot get a DL they cannot get insurance. A million people driving without a DL is one thing, but a million people (or whatever) driving without insurance is a huge problem here.

Years ago when I was in college I witnessed a hit and run and followed the car that left the scene and called the cops. Turns out they were all illegal immigrants and they ran because they had no insurance and if they got caught they would have gotten arrested. A simple car accident quickly got escalated into a felony that involved a car chase. This is repeated here day in and day out - It just happened right here in my hometown last week.

We also have the Border Patrol here locally - even in Northern California. Don't laugh but years ago I worked at Taco Bell when I first moved to California (1989?) and once a month two Border Patrol officers would stroll up to the counter in uniform and half of the staff would go running out of the back door - right into the arms of a dozen agents waiting for them.

My home town cannot take part of rounding up illegal immigrants. We have a town of fifty thousand people and at any given time we have three officers on duty. They do not have the resources to take care of rounding up, transporting, housing, going through the legal process, and deporting illegal immigrants. It's just not going to happen.

Being a sanctuary city isn't illegal in itself. We just don't have the ability to handle this issue. This is a federal issue, and needs to be handled by federal resources. The federal government has an agency tasked for this. It's up to them to take care of this, not local cities.
