But its what he does for his team that makes him mvp candidate. 22 assist?? not really a ball hog?

its his job to make assists. thats what a guard is supposed to do. what other player on OKC shoots at westbrooks volume.

They still have Oladipo and payne for shooters. None of them can shoot at Westbrooks level but he's an allstar for a reason.

Me disliking him as a person does not equate me claiming he is not mvp.

he's talent. are the thunder the best team in the league? if they were, you can say he is the MVP.

IMO a player cannot be MVP just because he is the best player on a team, & carries them. He has to be the most impactful player on the best team. When does MVP go to the 7th best team in the western conference?

Haven't I specifically answered that in the post you quoted? (Not to mention it was kind of obvious in my first post as well).

Well I mean that's true. But there have been MVP's whose teams weren't number one in their conference.

On that I will disagree. Either best player, or MVP could be from 7th team, because team results depends on all players. If you put best player in crappy team he is unlikely to win, because 2nd best, 3d bet players can have better partners and thus carry their teams higher.
So in my opinion winning team is not a requirement when deciding MVP.

but they are always the top 2 or 3 teams in the league.

there are lots of talents that never get MVP, just because the rest of their team is crap. when westbrook is so good he can carry crap to the very top, like lebron has many times now...

hard to say MVP is anyone but curry or lebron until a 3rd team enters the discussion as best in the NBA. that would make kawhi leonard more of an MVP to me than westbrook.

True, I can see Kawhi Leonard being up there for this MVP run.

I see your point, this is why James Harden won't win the MVP as well..

that sounds sensible. but when you look at what lebron did in cleveland (not last 2 years but the first 7 years) when he was literally the only talent on the team & they were in the NBA finals. its possible to be a 1 man team & get to the top. it happened.

how can anyone be the most valuable in a league when 9 teams did better. 9 teams best players carried their teams farther into the standings. it makes no sense to me that the 10th best team by record has the most valuable player in the league.

His team will make playoffs but won't make it far... That's the only problem.

He is the clear front runner but as noted by others above he is doing everything for his team. If he can sustain this he will win but that also means his team will continue to win which may not happen.

I think James Harden could steal it from him as the Rockits are having another incredible year. If the Clippers continue their impressive play Chris Paul could also get into the mix.

Under the radar player to watch is Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks are trash but he is having an unreal year and is still very young.

But like stated from other people, the Bucks aren't having a good season soo. I don't think that he will be a contestant.,

But the rockets are having a killer season and the fact that they just broke the record for having the most 3 pointers as a team in a game is helping his chances as well..
