I think there's more - but if you really want to know what list I got your email off of, just send me the email addy & I'll search for it in my files - believe me, I'm not sitting here making up email addy's :)

XxXotic - I really see nothing wrong with emailing people that have sent me their email addy's in the past :)

twistyneck - answer me one question: Do you report each & every piece of email that you think is unsolicited to Spam Cop? Or just the ones with names on them that you recognize? (not trying to be sarcastic, just asking)

mrthumbs - we're not spamming, we're sending out newsletters to people that we've done business with in the past :)

One newsletter now and again is fine but when my email box gets crammed full of stuff that I have *zero* interest in, I get sick of fucking around with it.

I report virtually all spam to Spam Cop. I never opted in to get "Green Guy and Jim" emails, I don't want them, I have no interest at all in them, and I shouldn't have to unsubscribe to something I never subscribed to to begin with.

Hmmm a thread on GFY bringing attention to:

http://www.greenguyandjim.com

His mail campaign seems to have worked.

All you guys know Greenie and Jim are good people.

Now if you get an email from me........... ;)

SomeCreep 04-10-2003 08:18 PM

oh i wasn't bitching, just arguing the fact that "you'd do the same thing" when in fact I wouldn't. that's all, spam doesn't really bother me for one i have a resource site so at times spam is good for me in finding new resources and plus, it only takes 1/2 a second to hit delete, not really that much of a hassle for me :winkwink:

wow are all those avs sites yours?

I need to get off my ass and crank more out

Rinky-dink 04-10-2003 11:08 PM

The most I got was four copies in one day at the same email address. I feel a bit left out. But, I do have a comment and a question for you GreenGuy (and Jim). Having some experience in working with databases and more specifically mailing lists, I am wondering if you took the time to check your mailing list for duplicate email addresses before you launched. If that's the problem and the list (assuming you've merged all your lists into one list) is in a database, then a simple SQL query might be all that's needed to clean up the output. On the other hand, if your mailing program is just spazzing, you may need to hire a nures to come in and administer the thing tranquilizers. Make sure you strip search her though first.

I just can't take it anymore. I go two days without checking my email and it takes two hours to delete all the shit out of it. I'm ready to just abandon all my accounts and start over.

Pointless 04-11-2003 12:36 AM

what this all boils down to is this, greenguy did it so its ok
:)

if any other less known site tried to pull this off the shit would hit the fan. But hey, it worked I'm now a member at there members board :1orglaugh

greenguy 04-11-2003 05:31 AM

Marcus - not all the sites on the avsindex are mine, but I'd say most are :)

Oddly enough, yes, we did - but the POS mailer we bought timed out & decided to restart itself a few times, which we are quite embarrassed about :( Of course, we now have a new mailer & hopefully everything goes well :)

Also, is it me or are there posts missing from this thread?

Theo 04-11-2003 05:33 AM

greenguy, when we dont like one post we remove it here :glugglug

I love how you utilize the former "crook" angle. It's absolute genius!

Spam can be helpful or it can 'be a pain in the ass. As long as the 'unsolicit button works - no harm done, because I am sure the delete key does.

You will be receiving a 'one time mailing from me on Cybernet Expo. Some will welcome the updated info - some will just use the delete key. You may even receive more than one, kinda like I receive more than one AVN or Klixxx mags, because i will be using lists from 3 different places. They are all supposed to be double opt and from very reputable people. Soooo, here is hoping I am not the one in the frying pan next time.
