As for the monitors, if it's only for web design ... an LCD would be the best option for two reasons ... easier on the eye (no refresh rates in those babies) and consumes less energy

CRT's have their advantages too, but if you spend a LOT of time at the PC, go LCD.

LCD all the way, much sharper and crisper image but I suggest getting a more expensive/better brand unit as the cheap ones have a slow response time and will show blurry animation/movements with motion trails. I use it for designing and coding and would never go back to CRT. The only use for the CRT I have is to compare the image quality when working on a design, other than that LCD is a better choice in my opinion, much better for your eyes and desk space

CRT is better for design, IMO, but the the eye strain is terrible.
I'm currently using an LCD for design, and it's not bad-- However, the native resolution is too high for me. Also, playing games on an LCD is horrible. There is minimal ghosting on my LCD, but I just can't take it. |

if you run CRT on high refresh rate, it wont hurt your eyes..
CRT has better picture quality but LCD just looks cooler. i'm not gonna get an LCD untill they make some big improvements, or maybe i'll just wait till plasma takes over and gets cheaper..

its a better technology.. why dont they make too many LCD tv's anymore? because their picture quality sucks for movies etc.. moving objects look terrible because of the slow pixel response. if plasma gets cheaper i would gladly use it as a monitor, why not.. (they're not all 42"+)

But all this technology will improve when given time, of course. Once the plasma displays are popularized and are more sophisticated, there'll be LCD's half the price and with very minimal response time-- While still retaining it's practicability for designers like me. ![]() |
