the freedom ship

has anyone heard of this thing before?

yesterday i read a full-page article in the paper about it. sounded legit from the article, but the website looks extemely amateur:

http://www.freedomship.com/overview.php

i think i'd be interested in one of the condos if it actually gets built.

Saw a show about it on The Travel Channel about a year and a half ago. Very interesting stuff.

Freedom ship looks likt bullshit, but there is a place you can buy a condo at sea called, I think, The World.

Quiet could probably afford one...if you watched the America's Cup, The World was in the background, they have these 3,ooo square foot flats you buy and the thing sails around the world all the time.

I swear I saw one of those things docked on a pier here last summer. There are a few of those in action. It didn't look like the one in the picture though, it had more of a cruise ship meets condo type of thing happening.

This kind of reminds me of a concept I heard of when I was living in the Cayman Islands.

This Prince Lazarus is still looking for investors I believe.

Would you want to live in an airport? With planes landing every 20 minutes.

I wouldn't really mind. Do you hear planes taking off while you are inside the airport? For some strange reason, the answer is no.

yeah, i checked out the world awhile back - it's much smaller, and much more expensive. the world takes a year to circle the globe, the freedom ship takes 3 years. the freedom ship would have an airport on the roof as well.

i could definitely see living there 6 months of the year...

Imagine sleeping right below the deck of aircraft carrier.

There's nothing louder. Even if you somehow park your eardrums, the intense vibration will drive you crazy.

What It's Not

Picturing a Vegas-style corporate nation with no taxes and loose laws? Freedom Ship's Mike Freeman says think again.

The Freedom Ship... it'll be cool, IF it ever gets built. And that seems to be a big IF. However I'd say saftey wise it's one of the best floating designs out there. The hull of the vessel is to be made up of hundreds of individually sealed containers. Think like those Sea-Land semi trailer metal boxes. Hundreds of those. And the system is overdesigned in such a way that every box facing ocean could be flooded and
the entire thing would still float.

As for New Utopia, I love the concept of new land being created in this world, which is unencombered by existing nations, a place which could be a true democracy. But I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime.

There are some spots in the ocean which are in very shallow water but still more than the required 120nm or whatever from any other country. But the costs are still very high.
