I believe that he actually spent the first years turning his fathers liquor store into a $60 mil business before he went into his ad shop

My take on people like Gary V:
If you think 90% of what he says is common sense or even snake oilsmanship, find that 10% that you can adopt as your own...or the 5-6 lines that resonate w/ you and help you remember when you have to push a little harder.
He's a very polarizing character, pay no mind to that, watch a couple of his videos and find your 5%-10%. If you're paying attention to superficial things like his accent, ego, attitude, etc. you're doing it wrong. Watch it for the content and the message with an open mind.
And as a side note, if you want more hands-on advice, just grab one of his books. Jab jab jab right hook is a good example (although a little outdated by now), very quick read with many case studies and concepts.

I just pulled those quotes out of my ass in 20 seconds and Gary V will charge $50k to yell it to a crowd.
Then you see these hungry desperate guys on the warrior forum 3 months later asking "How can I make a living online?" Because the inspiration fizzles and doesn't give clear advice anyone can use in the real world.
Gary V gets them excited to open their wallets, but they still feel lost after.
Gary V had 1 success, that was handed to him by his parents, and spends the rest of his life talking about it.
Shap was given nothing (that I know of) yet has numerous successes that he built starting with only his hands and his smarts. I'd buy a Shap book long before I'd buy a Gary book.
If I had a Gary book, I'd use it to put my drinks on. Face down so I dont have to look at that face.Comment

I actually like Gary Vaynerchuk, he's not full of shit.
There's other people like Tim Ferriss but I don't really like Tim Ferriss the same way I like Gary Vaynerchuk. Tim Ferriss is all about micro optimization garbage blah blah blah, make a product and sell it to people who will accomplish nothing else had they not bought it in the first place.
There's nothing romantic about it, it helps to see his perspective if you've had bad influences most of your life and that's why Gary's videos are good.
I like his attitude. Honey versus vinegar a.k.a. Steve Jobs. Trying to get the most out of people using fear and firing, then people emulate him.Comment

Please find me a Gary V video where you can find actionable content. Where you can say "oh, that's a great idea, I'm going to go do that to increase my exposure!"
