From where I sit Putin seems to be to Russia what Reagan was to the US. Its not necessarily bad or good for the US.
What I do seem to note is that once again the US and Russia have interests that are aligned more than not. It seems to me that a strategic alliance would serve both countries better than an adversarial relationship. It would also make the doves sleep easier at night.
