                                                              The problem is our sanctuary cities (LA, Chicago, NYC, etc.) that refuse to hold criminal illegal immigrants long enough for the feds to come get them. Trump has threatened to cut federal funding to these sanctuary cities. That would be one way of getting them to cooperate.

                                                                  Well, the Israeli wall costs $2m a kilometer (http://stopthewall.org/the-wall), and that is probably a high estimate. So the US wall will probably cost somewhere between $4-8b, which is a fraction of what just the federal government spends on illegal alien services. Compare that to the cost of the latest US aircraft carrier, which costs $13b alone, or the USS Zumwalt, the US's latest destroyer, at $4.4b. I'd say it's relatively inexpensive, and will save us several hundred billions - maybe even trillions - over its effective lifetime.

The financial argument isn't going to work, either, since even the highest reasonable estimate - around $10b - is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount America wastes on social service, policing, and adjudicating the illegal alien population annually. Frankly, you guys are pretty much fucked, and will have to argue on pure emotion. Then again, that's what comprises most progressive "arguments" anyway, so I guess you're used to it

                                                                                      Stopping illegal migration and making it harder for legal migrants who can't earn a high wage. Will increase jobs and wages for the Native workers.

                                                                                      It will also reduce the amount paid out in unemployment benefits. Reduce pressure on Social Services like Healthcare and crime. It doesn't matter if migrants are less likely to be ill or criminals. They shouldn't be in the country in the first place. And unemployment or living in poverty increase the likely hood of illness and crime.

                                                                                      This is without the long term affect of the migrants getting older, having children and the decrease in available jobs.

                                                                                      The downside is raised wages for low-paid workers. Means lower profits for Corporations.

                                                                                                          The $10bn is one off to build it. The real costs are in policing the wall, the affect from that is the drop in costs of policing illegals.

                                                                                                          The real gain is in taxes. More US workers paying more taxes and spending the money in the US, not sending it back home.
