Do you consider 'Loyalty' to be a good or bad personality trait in yourself?

Saying that you are a loyal person is generally seen to be a good thing. However I watched 'Westworld' the other day where the Maeve robot (Who runs the brothel) was having her attributes 'tweaked'...

She asked for her loyalty points to be made lower. It set me thinking...

Is loyalty a good or bad thing? Would you like your loyalty to be higher or lower if you could change your own 'Attribute Matrix' ???

same here, its only afterwards that you realise that loyalty can sometimes be a burden.

Yeah, I hear yah. THing is with me, despite being fucked about with in normal ways (Like everyone gets fucked with) I did have a big event that changed my outlook on how I deal with people.

Its all to do with a property that I unknowingly let someone run up huge debts on, to the point it was going to be repossessed. I had to find a large sum of money to avoid loosing it, and then when I did go to sell it a couple of years later, this other, different guy, ended up screwing me over and I lost out of few hundred thousand pounds.

OK, once bitten, twice shy etc, and as such, I blamed this on my trusting nature. I kinda stopped trusting people and cut myself off a bit from normal social situations. I wanted to avoid anyone getting too close to me, to basically protect myself.

However, now, with hindsight, I feel it wasn't me being too trusting, but infact it was a case of me being too loyal. Yet I never really thought about it this way till I saw the westworld episode and it set me thinking - Hence this thread

I'm the exact opposite. I find it very easy to cut people off if they don't bring any benefit or positive contributions into my life. its Morally wrong to do this i think.

I'm very loyal and sincere in all my friendships and relationships. Great character trait to possess as an individual, bad for you as a person because you end up getting taken advantage of

That is probably less to do with loyalty and more to do with empathy. Loyalty is a great trait to have and can open doors for you but it is also crucial to understand when someone is using your loyalty to their advantage. As long as you can notice the difference between being loyal and being used, you will be just fine.

Yes, but in my case, my loyalty lead to me being wronged. If I hadn't been so loyal as I was, they I wouldn't have been in the position I was for them to take advantage...
Naturally, once I was wronged I dropped them immediately but thats beside the point...
