Twitter is becoming bad for porn traffic

Hey everyone,

I was curious how many of you use twitter for promoting. I know I sure do. I've noticed over the last year though things have been on a downturn in terms of traffic coming from twitter.

I get a decent number of retweets and likes etc, and am currently at 118K followers for my main twitter account. The last 28 days I've done 277 tweets for 3.51 Million impressions and 419K profile visits.

Originally I would use a nice .jpg picture as a preview pic in the tweet to try and entice people to coming over to check out the FHG or video. It was great. After a while twitter upgraded their service to allow for animated .gifs.

Wow did that ever increase the traffic coming in, especially since I would make my own custom animated gifs from the preview content and it would bring lots of people over, especially since I had custom animated gifs that nobody else did.

But then...

Twitter started allowing 30 second videos. That's when I started to notice the traffic starting to level off a little bit. My twitter analytics were all still in the positive gains though. I was gaining more followers but less of them were using the links to come to my site.

Shortly thereafter twitter increased their service to allow videos up to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Since then I've noticed a big downturn in traffic coming to my site from Twitter. My analytics show I'm still gaining but people just aren't leaving twitter now.

The reason they are not leaving twitter any longer (I think) is because they no longer have to. They can just watch porn on twitter now, just find an account and check their feed and you have a semi-curated niche porn tube.

118K sounds like a lot of followers but amongst my friends on twitter, I'm the small guy. I have friends from my level all the way up to 956K followers.

I see lots of people posting FULL videos these days - splitting them into 2 min 30 second chunks. Most of the time the people doing this don't even link back to their website, to a FHG, or to anything. Some of them I don't think are even affiliated with any porn company at all. It's like they are going for a high score where the number of followers they have is the points.

Then yesterday and today I saw a 9 minute long video on twitter and a 6 minute one.

This can't be good for business.. while it is worse for small affiliates, I think it's also bad for the companies because even though they are getting lots of free promo (Watermarks are almost always left on the videos at least), less and less people are leaving twitter to come buy a membership. They are just watching it all free on Twitter now..

What do you all think or say about this? I have no idea about it myself.

Do the companies know this is a thing that has been happening? What do affiliate managers say about this? I'm sure it must be against ToS of most affiliate programs but I just don't know what to do or think.

Substitute "Twitter" for "tubes" and it's deja vu all over again.

It's human nature. Whenever there's anything cool and earning you money some Haji from some third world country (or the owners of a big company using outsourced labor, same thing) will flood the platform with free. Why? Because $0.02 is a lot of money in Pakistan.

EVERYTHING is going this way and when the world wakes up to find 98% of its' workers sitting around broke scratching their asses - and the free ride stops - people will go huh? Especially Millenials who know nothing BUT free. Think they will pay?

I've started producing content of women in hijabs and burkas. A lot of musslims freak out when a guy with a jewish star fucks them in the ass and they end up paying for the video in order to try and figure out who the woman is. Plus facist ignorant rednecks will drop down a credit card because they just love this kind of stuff.

So I think advertisement (sponsored tweets) can be only longer than that..

Twitter is one of the best networks to promote this line of business but their interest is to have people stay on Twitter, not leave and go on to other websites.
And this is the fault of people that post those 2 min porn videos. They're desperate.
It ruins things for everyone.

2 min. porn videos shouldn't be a real issue. Ppl leave big tubes to go to a paysite even when watching 7 minute videos..

I call that a "closed loop silo" effect.

Facebook does that so well to many of its user base Facebook IS the Internet.

However, this cannot work well with seeded commercial content -- as you have expressed in your frustration with Twitter. Commercial users will stop feeding the machine if they get no benefit.

The machine may not collapse however. If non commercial users reshare the commercially placed content the platform may survive for sometime just like the tubes. Given time, without non commercial user input of content the platform will collapse -- so the non commercial user violates copyright or the platform itself has to seed the content.

Moral of the story -- these platforms are for guerrilla marketing only and will collapse in value to you at random intervals. Use them and don't let them abuse you ... move on ... next.

Push 2 min. videos as well, where 90% of the video is just talk, then the rest is something good worth visiting the link/watermark.
