Any locksmiths? I can't install a doorknob!
I've been trying to install a freakin' doorknob for a day now, and the damn thing won't work! It's a doorknob for a bedroom that has a place where you can use a key to open it on the outside and you can close it on the inside by twisting a knob. It closes and opens fine but it won't lock for some reason. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have NO TOOLS in my house and don't know how to use any, the only thing I have is a screwdriver.
Is it because that thing that the doorknob thing goes into is not deep enough or something? Or do I have to call a locksmith? ![]() The thing is that the older doorknob had no lock on it, and I put a new one in there so I can lock it , but it does not work. |

When the knob isn't in the door, does the locking mechanism work?

Yes ! The door locks when its not closed, I can lock and unlock from both the inside and with the key, but when I close it won't lock, but then after I open the door again it will lock itself. I think this means that the whole in the wall where the lock goes in is not deep enough, is that right? And if so, what do I use to make a bigger whole?

Sounds possible. Before messing around with the door frame, I'd test that hyposis by holding the bolt in slightly and trying to lock the door.
As for making the hole deeper, you'd probably want to use a drill or a router.

you might have to loosen the thing the bolt ( lock thing ) that slides in and out on the door frame, a metal thing held in by two screws. Or it take out and see if the bolt (lock thing ) will even slide ( fit ) into it. if not you will have to take you're door knob down to the store and get another thing'e for the door frame.

It's called an emergency release. The doorknob itself will always just open from the inside, but it is locked from the outside. It's so that children cannot get locked in. Stand on the outside while someone goes in and locks it.
