Everyone pays a 2% Medicare levy on their income over $27,000 per year.
Any private medical insurance you take out is fully deductible against that.

America's proletariat has mostly been fiscally liberal and socially conservative, for all of our history.

Except the two political parties given to us never give us what we want. The Democrats are fiscally liberal and socially liberal (a recipe for disaster, as we've seen), while the Republicans are fiscally conservative and socially conservative.
