Does anyone know how the upside down star came to be the sign of the devil? I do. :)

That may be some Orthodox Jews interpretation but not all. A lot of Orthodox Jews are IMHO fucked up when it comes to their rules and interpretations, but not all Orthodox are that way. The Orthodox rabbis I know certainly have a different interpration about f'ing your wife through a slit cut in a sheet, although I'm sure there are those that exist. Orthodoxy is generally fucked up no matter where you go. Blinded by dogma. |

I think the raelians have it over the jews. A jewish girl couldn't use a vibrator on the sabbath.. although Dr. Ruth is one mean fucking machine :)

To be fair, and I hate defending the Orthodox, not all of them are so dogmatic. The purpose for not working on the Sabbath has nothing to do with deprieving oneself of something. It's original intent is that of liberation. To liberate oneself from work. To liberate oneself from worry. To enable you to relax and reflect, spend time with family and friends (and of course pray). Before Judaism, most people were forced to work 7 days a week....no break whatsoever. The Sabbath, which celebrates liberation, consititutes liberation on many levels. |

It's funny because much of today's Wicca/Paganism and even Satanism are based on one thing that Aleistar wrote in 'The Book of the Law': 'Do what thou will shall be the whole of the law.' LaVey understood it to mean 'Do what you want.' and he based alot of the roots of the Church of Satan around that. Wiccans on the other hand, took it, and added one simple phrase: 'An harm none, do what thou will.' This softens the sentence, and created somewhat of a buffer for Wiccans. But if you read more of Crowley's essays and books, you will find that he is very clear in what that means. To reiterate: "You have no right to do anything but what your WILL is meant to do.' Most also negate to mention the sentence that follows; 'Do what thou will shall be the whole of the law. Love under Will.' So 'will' is first, but will is guided by love....therefore, there was really no need for Wiccans to add 'an harm none' because it was already inherent in the text. Okay, so I'm blabbering...lol....don't ask me why I know stuff like this....I'm an armchair occultist...hehe |
