I saw a video recently where a guy said that if you ever need to hit somebody, you should make it a slap instead of a punch. For one thing, it's easier to avoid telegraphing the strike and the opponent won't be able to react before contact. The other thing is you should always hit a hard body part with a softer part of your own body. Hard knuckles on a hard head will be painful, or they might break.

I can attest to this because the one time in my life that I punched someone in the jaw, my hand was sore for a week.

Also, think about this. In addition to taking down your opponent, you have the added bonus of him being demoralized by getting slapped by another man.
