So...is this saying there will be a gigantic hole in the third-rate T-1 bandwidth providers? Say it ain't so. Glad I switched to SinHost while I had the chance!

I have always been again Cogent.
Cogent is cheap, and you get what you pay for. Cogent, is considered slow as compared to other networks like the best Level3 networks.

Without cogent everybody wouldn't be paying the BW prices they are today, regardless of who they host with.

The company has $42.8 million in cash or cash equivalents, according to the SEC filing.
Cogent's revenue declined from $16 million in the third quarter of 2002 to $13.8 million in the fourth quarter, caused primarily by cancellations from customers acquired from PSINet earlier in the year. Those cancellations more than offset the new business acquired by Cogent in the quarter.
For the full year, Cogent lost $91.8 million. The company has 204 employees and leases about 335,000 square feet of space for its headquarters and network operations.
Yup... there is nothing wrong with Cogent.

I give them 1 more year max.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Yeah, cogent probably had a positive effect on the market, but dude, read the fucking article. They are on the verge of bankruptcy.

If you're with cogent now, switch the fuck over, or prepare yourself for a rude awakening to what many have known for a long time.

http://www.sinhost.com - Switch today! (i am such a spam whore)

so true

I dont use cogent b/w but i dont see what would be the big deal if the would go bankrupt. You can switch to another host/provider within a couple of hours and please don't tell me for the downtime cost, I have seen more than few major hosting co. going down for innumerable hours. The majority of the webmasters won't face a problem and the ones that will, they shouldn't been using cogent in 1st place.

cogent fired the first huge shot in the bandwidth price war and price plunge. $3K/100Mbps and $30K/1000Mbps caused an industry landslide .. if noone else picks up the slack, a cogent bk could freeze prices and maybe send them up a bit.
