Trump catches up to Clinton, latest Reuters/Ipsos poll finds

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has pulled into an effective tie with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, erasing a substantial deficit as he consolidated support among his party?s likely voters in recent weeks, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos national tracking poll released Friday.

The poll showed 40 percent of likely voters supporting Trump and 39 percent backing Clinton for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Clinton's support has dropped steadily in the weekly tracking poll since Aug. 25, eliminating what had been a eight-point lead for her.

Trump's gains came as Republican support for their party?s candidate jumped by six percentage points over the past two weeks, to about 78 percent. That is still below the 85 percent support Republican nominee Mitt Romney enjoyed in the summer of 2012, but the improvement helps explain Trump?s rise in the poll.

well, he's the most efficient campaigner. It's about time a country that give birth to billionaires have a real billionaire as president.

I would check his tax return though.

Seeing how Eastern Germans have voted I expect any politician who promises to stop mass migration will do well.

While I disagree with the idea of prohibiting immigration, a lot of problems some immigrant cause makes this understandable.

Why should american bend over backward to accomodate people from cultures that's far less successful. They messed up their own country

Sure, the race is tightening if you frame it by looking at overall numbers...

But there's some details and nuances to consider. Clinton is beating/competing with Trump in states that normally get automatically checked off in the Republican column. He's not leading in all of the states Romney was in 2012, and he's not flipping any democratic states. This stuff is important.

Trump has gained some ground. When he tries to act presidential and reads what others have written for him on the teleprompter he does well. But it's disappointing that people have such short memories.

Clinton, on the other hand, has suddenly stared to make herself much more accessible to reporters. It's pretty obvious why. In fact, it's surprising she hasn't done this much sooner.

According to real clear politics, Clinton still has a good lead. Hell, even Fox news is reporting Clinton up by six points:

I think there's a large group of people (dumbasses, BTW) who are looking for a reason or rationale to vote for Trump. He does bad line readings and doesn't insult anyone, and all of a sudden he's their guy. The saying about leopards and their spots is very true, but everyone seems to forget that.

The country will be much worse off with Hillary in charge.

How is that possible? You are talking about one candidate who has spent decades in government including being a US Senator and Secretary Of State vs someone who no experience what so ever yet claims he knows better than "all of the Generals".

If he thinks a problem as complex as ISIS will be solved in 30 days, and he truly believes that -- then he's as naive and stupid as he seems.
