My results are exactly what you already knew but I guess I just had to see for myself to make sure.

Yes, you are all correct :

If you don't have access to a computer then forget looking for a job of any kind.

I went to a few businesses over the last couple of weeks and the answer is always the same.

"We don't have applications here; it's all done online. Go to blahcompany.com and fill out the application.
You will then be given an assessment test online to determine if the
interview process should be continue."

They said that shit just like robots.

So if you get fed up with being online and think you are going to unplug your computer and
get out there in the street and find a "real job"; then you are living in the past.
You will stay on the computer until you get a "real job" and then they will tell you to work on
their computer.

Years ago I told my kid to go out to the local businesses and get a bunch of applications for a job. The first night he came back with no applications and said they all said to apply online, I thought he was full of shit, turned out he was telling the truth. I still think it helps if you meet in person and introduce yourself, they'll remember you

in 1981 I stood outside the gate to a big job every morning at 7am, with my tools. after a week the super hired me. the job was 25 miles out in the country.

BCA (before computer age) I used to send out resumes and wait to get response from the want ads (classifieds).

I suppose today this is all done online: 'paste your resume to the response form' maybe attachments might be allowed?

This is part of the reason there will need to be an expansion of the subsidized ''Obama phones'' to include minimal Internet data, as least the hoped for part, that disadvantaged people could participate in the online ladder in the workforce today. A person has to have the basic tools needed to get a job -- a phone and an online availability today.

I do see work application kiosks at larger retail establishments now. Part of the reason for this trend is the digitalization of information in business. Sometimes, I think that handwriting will become a quaint old-time retro skill. Your tablet or smartphone is a superior note taking device anyway ...

The other part of that change is that everybody and their mom can learn my skills online.
I had to go to a 4 year college and get a degree in computer science before I could get a job.
And they live in a country where $10 an hour is big money; but that's starving where I live.

True story... when my the economy crashed and my adult biz went to the tubes, I sold what was left and started hunting jobs..

I took the only job I could get, which was via a temp agency working in a warehouse picking orders.. I busted my ass and was ready to be hired direct..

Part of the hiring process required you to do a "test" via phone but the kicker was it had to be a land line and had to be done by the next work day..

I got off at 6pm and no one I knew had a land line and they said payphones wouldn't work because the system had to call you back..

My only option was to use a cellphone and they fucking failed me for using a cell phone to do the test.. I showed up everyday on time, never missed a day in 5 months, my supervisor loved me and I made their rate my first week.. Yet they wouldnt hire me because I used a cell phone for their stupid fucking test..

Fast forward a few years and I just had my first $4k month after starting my ebay/Amazon biz while living in my van down by the river...

That sounds very typical of what's happening all over!
It's like the company needs a way to not hire people because too many people are looking for work.
So any deviation from their robotic procedure is the end for you.

I went to a "job fair" two weeks ago and the line was so long that they stopped doing the short interviews and
just took our phone numbers and email.
I waited two hours all dressed up to write down my email address and phone number.
And no, they didn't call or email me.
