I lived in Rio from 2003 to 2004 and saw petty crime daily but a little common sense goes a long way. However, times have changed there.

Now Brazil is probably the most corrupt country after Venezuela in South America. Brazil makes Colombia seem like Kansas.

I was reading an article how it's actually mostly women who like the olympics and they like the story build up. Athlete coming up through the ranks, growing up etc.. to the point of the event.
