It's amazing how much it increases after the Gore/Bush election. I have read that many think Hillary will raise around 1 billion for this election.

In the Obama McCain election Obama had so much money he was running out of places to spend it so he started advertising in non-battleground states and in places like video games because there was no more TV commercial time available to buy.

What I thought was most interesting was at the bottom of that chart.

Kennedy beat Nixon on real issues with almost equal money
The LBJ (Johnson) decimated that monumental idiot Goldwater -- with half the money spent.

If Hillary was not so distasteful to so many voters at a 3:1 money advantage she should be wiping the floor with Trump. https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit....html#comments

We are witnessing a visceral shift in the way the parties speak to the country

They can't see the forest -- the Internet may be the forest
Armies of political no-brain trolls -- Trump is winning that one 3:1

              1..2..3..

                        Why Bernie?

He was never going to be nominated. He made some points to move the She-Beast to the left-center.

Remember Trump and Hillary are splitting 75% to 85% of the electorate. Both are on standing on a weak board over shits creek. The contest is a battle of investigations and courtroom hearings.

I don't like either of them -- many people seem to be saying the same.

I think that the vice presidential debates will be what makes up the undecided vote, that and the media spots the campaigns are buying == the money advantage, surly not the orangutan and the baboon heading their respective tickets.

Oh LOL, your cash may be trash in a safe. Better have gemstones and bullion.

When Emperor Trump issues new money you will have to explain where your cash came from.
Guess who will control the IRS by Imperial decree? Remember, he would be the commander in Chief controlling the army.

After he rounds up all the rag-heads and uses eminent domain to take their real property and force Majeure to take their personal property -- The Emperor-God Trump may come after his next victim.

Render onto trump what Trump thinks is his.

Its not just the candidates though. The Koch Brothers for example had 900 million under their control to put into this election via 501 groups. That's just one major player not directly connected to any candidate with almost a billion dollars to try and buy the election.

This is all a direct result of the citizens united judgement.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

Look at the bottom of that chart ''unadjusted for inflation''.

It's interesting you mention the Koch's. I read today that yesterday they basically blew Trump off as Trump's people were trying to get a meeting with them while they were all in Colorado. It's looking like Trump won't be getting that Koch money. I wonder if they will back Hillary or just sit out this election.

All articles I've read on this go on to say they're putting the money on down ballot elections to keep power in congress.

Makes sense. I know there is a lot of talk that Trump will cause down ballot Republicans trouble so I can see the Koch's dumping money into those campaigns to help them out.

The Kochs tend to put a lot of their money into state level politics because if you think about it, that has a lot more effect than Washington does on their day to day operations.

So it is gridlock as usual -- Koch Bros live on to fight another day.
Both parties should take full advantage of Citizens United -- eventually the parties will explode and there will come indictments. Mutual serf-destruction assured or continued graft?

@relic -- well how do you suggest we elect the President (other office, issues, referendums) -- throw virtual darts at them? Ballot boxes are often crooked world-wide. Call out the National Guard to observe? We use scanned paper ballots locally -- assuming the scanner is not rigged the ballot is scanned then goes into a safe -- then==> leaves the precinct when the voting is done to be counted. So, I guess they get the location scanner count and the actual ballot count -- they have to match?

Ballot boxes are often crooked world-wide. Call out the National Guard to observe? We use scanned paper ballots locally -- assuming the scanner is not rigged the ballot is scanned then goes into a safe -- then==> leaves the precinct when the voting is done to be counted. So, I guess they get the location scanner count and the actual ballot count -- they have to match?

It's all about getting the message out there. And that costs money.

No rebuttal for the blockchain barry? I want to see you dance around that like you did Diebold.

Why -- ballots are used one time only.
You could trace the ballot from issuance to final count. Record the vote in the blockchain -- what is to prevent tampering with the software that reads the data? That is very easy to do and not very transparent to the average person working for the election authorities -- hackers are so honest LOL.
Write a proposal to the FEC. Good luck having those cave-men even understand it.

Programming a vote is simple -- securing a vote is another story.
