A boombox-like device that has two independent CD players and some basic mixer built it. It has to be quasi-mobile and doesn't have to produce sickening volume but something reasonably loud with good base. It's quite imporant that it doesn't rely on AC power since the place where I plan on throwing the party no such power exists. I wouldn't mind stacking a ton of batteries though. Does such beast exist?

My other alternative would be an independent battery powered sound system with conjuction with a laptop and some software like Atomix MP3. Which sound system would you recommend?

such a thing does not exist.

back in the early 90s, when raves were held in abandoned warehouses and factories, the power was stolen from other places with extension cords.

judging by that reply, i'll assume your holding your party somewhere remote as opposed to somewhere illegal.

rent a pick up truck, rent a generator, and plug the sound system into there. i think that's just about your only plausible option.
