Voodoo thats awsome design

One thing i would wonder about is bandwidth.
If you're gonna be submitting galleries like that to large tgps, or many tgps, and be getting like 50-100k/day to the gallery
Would the graphics use a lot of bandwidth? Something like that
would be cool for HP/FP ads.
My thinking is galleries will only convert a certain amount regaurdless of how good it looks. There must be a balance between paying for hosting, and getting the signups...

The rules say you dont have to care about bandwith, TGP rules, CTR, etc... it just has to look good. But I cant forget all those factors when I'm creating a gallery...

No one is saying that conversions aren't important when you submit to a TGP. Just keep in mind that this isn't that kind of contest.

It does look good, however it's very simple. I'd hope that didn't take much more than 15 mins to do it...Don't get me wrong it, looks good, but it's not the best design I've seen. There isn't much actual design talent that you are showing, just simple text with basic effects.

mmm... I gotta disagree. Whether you like the design or not, what you can see is an approach to the theme coming from his knowledge of that culture (at least I think so). It doesn't matter if he spent 1o minutes or 3 days, if he used mega-super-duper software and hardware or just Paintbrush in an old 386, what matters is the result, and as you can see, most people got impressed with his gallery. ie: nobody thought of making the girls' eyes all black, he did. And it happens that gothic people likes to use contact lenses, being one of the most popular the "all black". I know that, but I'd never think about it. He did because he knows the niche.

And speaking of talent, I think he's talented enough to do great stuff :thumbsup

I said I liked the design, just thought more design concepts could have been used. I agree, a lot of people responded well to it, I guess I just enjoy being impressed by talents of the designer, such as Trolleater, who actually changed the eye color of the main girl as well, and who posted his first. Since this IS a contest, catching someone's eye should be the first priority, which Troll's gallery definitaly does with it's color scheme and layout.

OK, OK, just doesn't agree. To me, Voodoo's gallery is something noticeable, and the other gallery is good, but TO ME, nothing to remember. Again, I don't care about design skills, but ideas. And as a designer, if you want to make a skills comparation, I don't find much in that Troll's gallery (warning: not saying it's bad, just nothing extraordinary). btw, 99% if not all galleries chose the same color scheme (red, bordeaux, white and black) and the layout itself (5 pics row/banner/5 pics row) is the same most of us were using for the last 6 years.

Again, opinions, everyone has his own :)

I would think that something less graphical would be a better choice for galleries...

Alot of these look like bandwidth burners...not to mention load times for the 56gayers would lose you a sale or two for sure...

Or is that not a judged factor in this contest...?

Thats a good question about colors too though. Do you think people associate the "red/white on black" thing to be gothic more now ?

It used to be more of a deep velvet purple and black and pale skin.. almost a deathly pallor with the deep "blue blood" vein colors, etc...

Those are some nice drawings, and somehow I agrre with AlienQ.
To create a great gallery we must understand the goth segment, and we cant know every segment out there, so you must help us out with the colors, text, etc.. You know what sells in your area.

Ah yes, but I think the idea of the contest is that he wants to know who can do a good job without the help.

Those galleries look amazing but some of them are huge. What are the chances of even getting listed on the bigger tgps? They all seem to want more content and less ads =/

I think this is meant, at least in part, to help him find people with design talent. The niche is one where the look of things really matters, so people who can do something creative make a big difference. At least, that's my take.
