News Worlds Longest Tunnel Built for Extinction Level Event opens

European leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi joined Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann on the first official journey on the line.
The 57-kilometer long (35-mile long) tunnel creates a high-speed rail link deep beneath the famous mountain range, connecting northern and southern Europe.

    Great work.

In comparison the UK are building a High Speed Rail Line above ground.
The Gotthard tunnel took 20 years to construct and is the longest and deepest underground tunnel.
The gotthard tunnel cost about £8 Billion to make. The new UK line is expected to cost £42 Billion..

Funny how it took 20 years and it was finished "on schedule" 😂

HS2 will cost far more. Probably £70 Billion + running cost paid again by borrowing. To get people to a place few want to go.

Very nice achievement ;) But what will they do for an other 6 months?

The line, which will begin full operations in December, will establish a mainline rail corridor through Europe from the Dutch port of Rotterdam in the north to the Italian port of Genoa on the Mediterranean.

Its what made me research more and think it's more than just a tunnel. The whole surrounding culled population could live in that huge 35 mile tunnel in a time of world crisis or Extinction Level Event. Seriously.

I say put all the world "leaders" in that tunnel...seal it...and then fill with quick trying concrete.

Most of the world's problems solved in one action.

this one really reminds me of the satanic costumes/rituals.

True. The opening ceremony corroborates what I'm saying. You don't think they'd spend $20Billion building a 37 mile long tunnel a mile under a mountain to save 45 minutes commuter travel time do you?

The ceremony speaks for itself. What story are they telling? The workers building, the angels coming in, death, survival of the few, basic life, rebirth of society. You see anything different from that performance?

Nice. If there's ever a world holocaust I'm definitely heading to that tunnel. Me and 400 million others.

How many does it hold again?

Every 325 meters there are a series emergency escape tunnels marked with easy open fire/gloodproof doors that lead to service tunnels that exit out multiple opens throughout the length of the tunnel. http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/alptransit_engineers-meet-challenge-of-gotthard-tunnel/40792690

Seriously so sorry. New phone and autocorrect is tricky on this on for some reason and it seems to be taking longer than usual to kick in.

I thought so too. Very cool, but very telling about what that tunnel really represents to them, as well as the escape tunnels, within the tunnel, leading to the surface every 325 meters
