Single Women exceeding Married women

Recently, a survey said that there are more single women than married ones in United States of America.

What can be the reason behind this?

Please give your opinion.

in the past women basically had to get married to survive. there were also religious reasons. now both of those reasons are basically gone and an increasing disillusionment with relationships leaves a large number of people men and women single by choice. many of these people will have some relationships but keep seperate residences and lives essentially.

i think this will have a large economic impact negatively when thse people grow old and have no one but government services to help take care of them. not to mention middle and upper class people have less kids while the lower class and poor religious immigrants continue to pump out kids creating more need for support from somewhere.

Having kids is not a guarantee that they will be in a position to take care of you when you are older or, even want to assume that role. Just as getting married has fallen by the wayside, so has the family dynamic of kids caring for their senior parents.

Because too many wait until they finish college and land a good job before they start looking for a man.

They think society has promised them a man when they get to that point; but it's up
to them to start looking early.

Females who treated me like garbage during college started hitting me up for the first time just one day before graduation.
They were "in their final throes" of desperation then.
It wasn't exactly ego building to clearly see that I was "the last guy left".
I was too disgusted by it to care.

We all lost.

I'm pretty happy about all the wild sex with strangers though.

Disclaimer : Repeat the exact same shit for guys; because every guy is thinking that shit too.
"Get rich and then the women will love me".
But look at all the rich single male celebrities and pro athletes.

Certainly not a guarantee but never really was. guess that depends how you raise them and if they are total fuck ups or not.

why get married?

what is the clear advantage for a man in this?

marriage is like a cell phone contract where you have to pay every month but you do not get a new phone after 1-2 years...makes no sense from the male point of view...and if you want a new phone you will have to honor the old cell contract and pay for the old phone while you are alive...

why the fuck should I retire my dick so some woman can feel safe and special

I am 43, I will never ever have kids, never marry and I will die alone anyway, its not like my kids will live and take care of me when I am old, I will get put in a home, I can put myself in a home LOL

fuck that

I don't care to have the government in my business. I've been with my significant other for well over 9 1/2 years. We have 3 children together, live together, etc. We have our ups and downs like everyone else. But we do it together. There's no reason that the government needs to tell us how much money to make because we are married or if we split up who gets which kids. It's our decision alone. I remember when I gave birth to my second child, they refused to let him put his name on her birth certificate. The reason: my own driver's license had expired days before. If anything about that makes sense, then I would probably have some faith in government regulations and standards, but no.. it doesn't.

The government may still be in your business though; because you have what some states call a "common law marriage".
The government can still apply a lot of "regular marriage" laws to you under those provisions.

You can actually file for divorce in court as you are, and it will be processed just like any other divorce.

But that all depends on what state you are in because many states no longer recognized
common law marriage.
But I swear, it seems like people can do whatever they want in court if a judge agrees.

BlackCrayon made a good point. In the good old days, women needed to find a good provider; and create a stable, lasting relationship. This has been been removed from the equation. Nowadays, women free to choose a mate based on, well what's left? Stupid shit, such as superficiality. Or someone she feels her friends will be impressed by.

And it sounds like a good idea,. But when you look at how these relationships typically end (violence, abuse, drug-addiction, being cheated on, pregnant and single) it seems to indicate that women in general (not all, of course) are very inept at choosing a mate who's actually good for them. I'm almost inclined to believe they don't want a mate like that.

Other women simply feel no one is good enough for them. They're princesses, and all guys they meet are merely peons worthy only of contempt. Their standards are so high, an ideal mate doesn't actually exist in the real world. Bizarre, but true.

So yeah, this survey finding comes as no surprise to me.

My state does not legally recognize common law marriages.

This thread has so far ignored the very high incarceration rates and unemployment rates among some male populations in the states. Being in prison makes it kind of tough to woo a woman.

Also, the parents of the GenX'ers were very vocal about "living your dream" and don't let anything tie you down. Get the job you love, go travel, and love and family will find you later, when you're ready. Don't rush into anything. So lots of us have done just that. Marriage is only one facet of a woman's life; it no longer has to dictate who she is. Heck, a married woman can even keep her own last name these days!

Basically: lots of reasons.

yeah some people just won't get married despite being together long time. i've been with my girl for over 14 years and we have a family but never got married. we have a number of friends in the same situation. though once you live with someone for x amount of years "common law" comes into effect for certain things.

There are 1 million men in jail. (30% there for fighting with a female they tried to date)

There are 124 million free men with hard ons. (But 20% want to use your bathroom)

So the problem is not jail.
