I looked at the dispair and hopelessness in the faces of Iraqi children on TV early this morning, watched as their mothers struggled to grab food and water for their families from the relief aid trucks,

then looked at my own son asleep so comfortably in his bedroom,
surrounded in a sea of toys, so safe and secure,

walked over to the window, as the rain drizzled down, and just started to cry.

This world is so totally out of balance and filled with so many injustices, and I just wish there was more equality, opportunity, and genuine concern for the welfare and protection of all the people everywhere.

I'm not sure, but here's my try....anything desirable in life often carries with it unpleasantness. Unpleasantess that you have to overcome to attain this desired object/goal -- to get to the flower you must get past the thorns.

Another way to look at it is that the goal/object is itself not completely a good thing and carries drawbacks/setbacks/responsibilities.

There's a big difference between knowing and seeing. You can know that there is bad sh*t going down, but sometimes it just doesn't have the real impact until you see it.

Expecting reputable smart people to understand something they do not understand forces them to lie in the meantime. They'll consistently sacrifice the benefits of real communication if their reputation seems threatened.
