That amazing £900 'tax free' a month (which is the tax threshold, not the minimum wage) that you use for your rent, food, utility bills, petrol to travel to-from work, monthly car insurance/tax doesn't leave much to put into savings for such instances, and you find yourselves getting evicted... this exact scenario is happening to someone I know, who has worked various jobs since age 16, right up until now at age 45 - far from any kind of leech on society.

Merely anecdotal of course, but there's literally millions of people with a similar one, caught up in a catch-22 situation... many are just lazy, but most are not, and don't know where to start to get out of the poverty trap. It's fucking disgraceful in 2016. As I said, I'm a capatalist by nature, considered a conservative if people were to label my views, and believe everyone has the choice to better themselves - problem is, the vast majority of those don't *know* they have a choice, because for one thing the education system is so fucked. There is a whole generation, maybe even 2 or 3 generations, that have been spoonfed the idea of "go to college and life will be great." Somewhere along the line they forgot the whole part about "learning marketable skills" and instead of becoming GOOD at something, they spent 5 (not 4) years pulling out as much money in loans as possible with no fiscal responsibility clinging on to the "American Dream" (this is not the real American Dream) with their fingers crossed that someday they will get a good paying job and their financial irresponsibilities will go flying out the fairytale window.

Sue me for having little sympathy.

Everyone is not meant for college. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not going to college. It doesn't mean you're stupid, it doesn't mean you're not useful to society, it does not mean you are a loser.

The minute society allows this fact to settle in and take hold, fewer unqualified people will go to college, college will be cheaper for the qualified people and they will then get an even better education. Will this cause an educational and societal gap because the smart will be getting smarter and the "dumb" will be staying the same? We already have that gap, why continue stuffing this ideological dream down kids throats and instead finally get over this wave of mediocrity we have somehow deemed acceptable by bolstering our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses.

Why?

We do this every four years - demand change. It's like clock work.

Why do we need change? We have removed ourselves from two never ending wars, unemployment is 2001 levels, the economy is moving in the right direction, and the only real threat to the United States (ISIS) is being reduced and has lost a lot of territory in the past year - without US boots on the ground. Seriously, WTF do we need change for?

It's the Republicans right now who are shouting the loudest - They say such nonsense like "Our country is fucked up". Really? Yes, we need change. We need to go back to the way it was, when unemployment was 12%, people were loosing their jobs and their houses, gas was $5 a gallon, and we were loosing thousands of American lives in foreign countries that no one really gives a rat's ass about. Yes, we need change. We need to back to 2008.

What kind of a change do we need? Do we want unemployment to go back up? Do we want people to lose their jobs, and their houses? Do we want to go back to more needless wars?
