When you were living in Banff, was there high-speed net access there?

What kind of places are there to live in there? or did you just live in a hotel the entire time?

I post on GFY so that when people ask me what I do,
I can tell them that I work with the mentally retarded.

I can answer some of those questions.

Yes there's high speed in Banff.. And as far as living there, GOOD FUCKING LUCK! You have to work there or have a specific reason to live there, or you can't. Period. Buying a house there is almost impossible unless you're a) SCREAMINGLY fucking rich or b) have a job/family there. It's because it's inside the provincial park. I'd suggest Canmore, honestly. It's outside the park so it doesn't have all the restrictions, it still has all the awesome mountain views, and it has all the amenities as well. That and it's a stone's throw from Banff anyways.

I'm sure there is but as far as I know you aren't allowed to live there unless you work there or have family there, period, rent or own. Not exactly sure how they do it, but the park has very strict access and you can get in big caca if you overstay your welcome.

yes, monarch cable (the provider in the area) can provide high speed internet to all residences.

i had an office in addition to my condo - so i never had a residing issue (due to the national park issue). however, it's pretty easy to get around if you're not running a brick and mortar business, or working for someone else in Banff. almost anyone renting out will not ask any questions if you appear to have money and not be a complete idiot.

the people renting are very worried about leasing out to someone who will fill the appartment/condo with 5 snowboarders per room. this is a huge problem in Banff, and that's the real concern.

rent is very high, price of living is very high - but that's the price of paradise

best place i've ever lived. Banff kicks ass, period.

Oh Banff...I miss it! I lived in Calgary Alberta for a few years and spent many weekends in Banff! What a beautiful place to live! And you got to love all those snowboard DUDES....lol

all i remember is it gets REALLY DARK at night in canada. like, really dark. and apparently our friendly canadians aren't very pleased by outdoor lighting such as street lights.

but it was pretty.

and that cement-factory castle was pretty cool. one of the people i was with thought it'd have a great romantic story about a prince. and we came back and were like "it was a cement factory."

such disappointment had she.

if you are into snowboarding, you'll be very happy. everyday is Friday in Banff.

the thing with Banff, is that it's filled with nothing but snowboarders, tourists who are there to either ski or snowboard, and a few rich bastards. So it has a very different vibe than most places. everyone is in a good mood, having fun. always.

No smog, very little traffic - you can walk everywhere you need to go in Banff. it's a different way of living. 3 mountains to choose from for riding.

i meant emphasis on the part that it gets a lot darker there than here at night. there's always lights... even camping in an establishment in the country or something. there's almost always some sort of light. there, you can walk outside, raise hand to 1.5ft in front of face, and not see it. and there's 1 60w light by the bathroom, if you're lucky. now that's quite a difference, talking to someone who relies heavily on nightvision and never uses a flashlight outside. it's hard to rely on natural nightvision in canada.

my office was directly underneath (ground level) The Rose and Crown - one of the many bars in Banff.

i ran wireless in the office, so we could literally go up to the bar and have a beer while remaining online. i used to post to GFY wirelessly from that bar.
