Me and my girlfriend are adopting a kitten, she was rescued 3 days ago from the garbage, she is still sucking from a bottle. its our first cat (we have a dog). any tips or advices?

1st off, that is SUPER awesome to anyone who will take in homeless animals. VERY good hearted thing to do, so many props to you/gf for that
2nd, yes take to vet, make sure when gets a lil older that she has enough toys, and it's going to happen that she'll want to lay on your laptop while you're using it, hehe, embrace their attention (or they'll demand it!) haha. They are super awesome animals.

-Multiple liter boxes for a happy kitty
-Laser pointer, feather toys, toys on string, empty boxes(they love these the most)
-Most people think cats just lay around and sleep all day, they do not. They are pretty active in their young years and demand lots of attention. Although they are still pretty independent they love people, warm, and cuddling.
-Dont train them by spraying them with water. Use positive reinforcement to trainComment

Kittens
I have three right now that we found. We had to bottle feed them for about a month. After a while they started drinking milk and eating soft food. I would ask the vet for sure. If you aren't sure how old they are. After a while they'll be fine and eat normal food. They are always hungry like babies.Comment

Big note here...cats only scratch furniture when they don't have something to scratch on. Give them toys and scratching posts and they won't mess with any of your stuff. I have tower speakers in my living room, guest room, and den, along with couches and whatever other furniture and nothing has been ruined or marked up. You have to realize that a couch is no where near as satisfying as their actual post where their nails can really get stuck and dug in. Also keep their nails trimmed and their "want" to claw will be much lessComment

I once rescued a black Havana cat and a golden Norwegian forest cat and got them to coexist somewhat peacefully for a long period of time. They liked to behave but only in so far as to get close enough to eat our brains. Violence squared. Magical however. lolComment

Take him to the vet anyway, just to make sure he's ok. At the same time, get some kitten food from the vet. Your vet will probably sell you some wet, fatty food at first and then switch kitty over to dry food in a few months or so.
Kittens get into everything. They will run and play constantly until they pass out and sleep. Play sleep play sleepl eat play sleep poo pee play poo play eat poo play.
Don't get a laser pointer. Yes they chase it around but since there's nothing for them to catch, its just a tease. A great toy is just a small crumpled piece of paper. They will chase it for hours, they will catch it in their claws, and carry it around with them. It's super cute when they pick it up in their mouth and bring it to you. Depending how you want to interpret that, it is either an offering or they just want to play.

Actually they love it they just get frustrated if you do it too much without allowing them to "catch it". Same principal applies to those ipad/tablet games. My cats still enjoy it...if they didn't they wouldn't continue to play. They let you know when they're bored or uninterested, laser pointer included.
Laser pointer for a cat = 30-40' sprints across the house which = a tired/happy/in shape cat.Comment

She is a Devon Rex. Its a cat that has an undercoat only, no top coat. Shes as soft as a cotton ball and more like a dog than a cat. They require a bit more attention than a typical house cat but their personalities are amazing.

What i suggest ..in the beginning to not walk too fast, around it , just until the kitten gets used to you.
Sometimes they are silent , so they kinda scare the crap out of you , try not to scream , because they get scared and hide.. and you need to look around for hours after it ..Comment

I am up to 5 rescues at home right now and I am with a group that traps feral cats, gets them fixed and checked out.
GET THE CAT FIXED!
Good food helps the live longer and may also reduce the dreaded cat puke. I use wellness. Not cheap, but the love it.Comment

I must of thrown out thousands of dollars of new toys, beds. climbing beds and the likes over the years. My devon will use them for a week.. then ignore. Including a 4.5k cat enclosure with walkways for them.Comment

First rule of cat ownership, recognize cats are assholes. It doesn't matter how cute they start out at, they are assholes and they will do asshole things (yet we still somehow love them).
Second rule of cat ownership is your house is no longer your house. You will be allowed to live there. That's it. You cease being the owner of your own domain, get over it.
Third rule of cat ownership, you WILL buy things from Amazon and often. You think you're just getting yourself things, no. You're actually buying the box for the cat.
Fourth rule of cat ownership, if it fits it sits. This means laptops, keyboards, on top of the newspaper you were reading, etc.
But in all seriousness...make sure they have a scratching post (we have a floor to ceiling they can race on that has a lot of boxes with holes for them to bat at each other from) and toys. My girl cat was returned to the shelter at 4 months because she played with hands too aggressively. Turned out they didn't have any cat toys...when she came out of the crate into our living room, you could see her eyes grow wide from all the cat toys everywhere.
Also, invest in rollers to get hair off your clothes. You'll need it.

As far is I know Its only ever been given to Kittens, and I'm sure some vets and fucked up owners never bothered to follow the instructions to the letter, but yeah.
No Vacc here on your pet means its not staying at any Vets.
Thank fuck here in Australia they are not paying social benefits to people who don't vaccinate their kids nor allowing them to attend schools.Comment
