Has anyone purchased any wireless routers/hubs? Also, can you give me some details on speed, reliability and prices. I am about to move locations and don't want to fuck with all the wires again.

If you are going to be purchasing new equipment, make sure you go with 802.11g which is the new standard that works with older 802.11b ( 11Mbs ) and the new 54Mbs networks.

Hi,

We used wired and wireless networks.

If you have dsl / cable modem, just get a Linksys or D-Link wireless router / gateway.

Will allow a few wired ethernet connections, and of course wireless connections.

make sure all wireless connections are setup with security, i.e. security key. So ppl can't be outside your office / house and get into your network, or use your bandwith.

Wireless, around 300-400 feet indoors, and around 1500+ feet outdoors for good connections, but could be slower or shorter amounts, depends on your building.

Mmmm. I definitely have to get a wireless network setup for the summer time... Sit out on my front porch or tan nude in my backyard... all while being a pornographer... live cam feed too.. ;)

Hello,

I have an SMC wireless network. It supports the new 802.11a. I've checked prices and found SMC to have the best. I've used them for several months to connect my 2 laptops to my hardwired network. I have an SMC router, a wireless access point and 2 pc cards.

Only problem I had is trying to run it at max speed of 72mbps. It isn't reliable at that speed. But slow it down to under 50mbps and it is rock solid. If you do get it turn off the high speed turbo mode.

If you want cheap, the ole Wal Mart is selling some stuff in an orange box. It worked for a buddy of mine. Probably a whole system for >$150.

If you want the fastest and best, snag a Linksys 802.11g compatible with their Air-something system. Supports something like 44mbps. It's awesome. At least $300 for a small setup.

The G version is a waste of money unless your running a server on your wireless network,,

simple surfing and FTP isn't needed

i had my SMC barricade router for over 2 years and its been working like a champ still

It's only $219 for a whole kit, as opposed to buying every piece seperate. And I picked up a laptop card for like $30 brand new on eBay...... so I went totally wireless for like $250. And I am SOOOOOO glad I did. I have 4 computers and the wires were killing me.

Yes but you can buy more........ I forget how many, it was an unreal amount of computers you can add to this...... but it is ALOT. Each one of the little usb thingies is like $50..... I went to the Belkin site, but they are down for maintenance, but I know you can add a ton of them to this setup.

This is the BEST price I have found for an entire kit like this....... and trust me, I looked...... and looked and looked...... LMAO

actually, if you want to keep people out of the network, you have to set it to secure mode AND use a password. it's been proven both password or encrypted alone can be broken, but together they are thus far inpenetrable.

it also reduces your bandwidth when in secure/encrypted, but you most likely won't notice unless you're using a bunch of stuff at once (multiple machines)

also not that the speed is the TOTAL speed for all connections, not each connection.

I can vouch for this one. I just bough the Linksys Wireless Broadband g router and Linksys G Card for my laptop. My pc's are still on cable, but this isn't a problem because the router has 4 ports on the back, plus you can piggyback with a hub if you need. The speed on the laptop with the g card is awesome. Downloads and uploads just like normal. I paid around $400.00 cdn for both items and am very pleased. Hope this helps, and don't forget to change the default password and settings.

I have a 3com 10/100 5 port hub. So if I wanted more RJ-45 connections I could just run that one line into the hub from hub/router?
