psychology study shows dogs hate hugs

Psychologists did a google image search of dogs being hugged by their owners, then noted the facial expressions on the dogs to determine that dogs hate being hugged

mine too.

i noticed the study report didn't state if the psychology scientist judging the pictures scaled the intensity of the hug. nobody likes getting smothered. some of the signs of anxiety they claim the dogs have also seem more human than dog to me. evaluating a dog based on human expressions in a google image search result doesn't seem very scientific. if so, then the results should apply in the same opposite way, humans hate hugs. right.

think that depends more on the owner.. a needy pet owner who needs to hug their animals ALL the time and use high squeaky voices? That would probably irritate the devil.

oh, dogs look away because of our breath, as bad as theirs can be their noses are supremely more powerful and most can't take the strong smells that come out of ours on a daily basis. oddly enough they are immune to asses and crotches though.. hehe

As if the smell had ever stopped you from nose diving into both.

a lot of times when i yawn and my dog is close enough, he'll sneek a good sniff of my breath/mouth, he'll put his snout in my mouth even.

I can see how it would be uncomfortable/unnatural/threatening to the dog.

thanks! i've got a solid daily oral hygiene routine and love going to the dentist!

actually, i've always figured my guy does that to check what i've been eating. he doesn't do it all the time, not during hugging, and certainly has his looking away times during hugs.

i know right? hah.
i do wonder what he's so interested in, i've ended up trying the self smell test quite a few times after he takes a whiff. after the yawn though, he looks away real quick.
