Reality checks are a good thing, something that happends to set you in line with what's really going on. Know what I'm talking about?
My most recent was when I went snowboarding yesterday (this is my first season) and I took a jump, too big and too fast. Parallel to the ground immediately after take off, I did a bouncing bellyflop, complete with snow up the nostrils. A few runs later I hit the halfpipe at too sharp an angle, completing with a sloppy and ugly full flip that left me with a sore and crackling ankle and slightly swollen, repeatedly injured knee.
It was a big *HELLO* that there needs to be some ability to pull something off to match the aggressiveness to take it on.

Has anyone else had a lesson learned they'd like to share?

the son of one of my client's broke his spine in a spring break skiing accident about 2 weeks ago... he's only 19 and will never walk again, so count yourself lucky Chesire!

To answer your question, To get slamed by a nice 10/12 foot wave. pounded my head on the bottom I thought I was going to passout. Thank goodness I was able to get to the surface.

Just use your head to guide & channel your enthusiasm.

I came close to drowning twice because my enthusiasm for bodyboarding in large surf exceeded my ability to hold my breath while being held under by a big wave. Done the same thing climbing a few times too.

Fuck I got beaten like a redheaded stepson last week at Whistler. I spent more time on my ass than on the board. I was following some more experienced boarders down the peak and the powder was just insane!

Needless to say we were hitting some cliffs and I did so many faceplants! I can totally relate to the snow up the nostrils and face full of snow. LOL!

Before I worked with porn I worked in a supermarket part time. This woman I worked with had a son my age (17yo) at the time.
Well one night the guy was out with his friends and they were all drinking alcohol and messing around. They were jumping on this small rope bridge in a kids park. It was only about 4 feet from the ground, but one the guys friends pushed him as he was climbing onto the roof of the thing. The boy fell off and landed on his back and broke his spine.

As a result he would never walk again and it cost hims mum about $40,000 to get her house all transformed so he would be able to get easy access with his wheel chair!

That kinda made me realise how lucky I was in life. I know its not the same but it still kinda hits home how lucky I am.........

Its been 2 years now and the guy is still in hospital from what I hear! Very sad........

I forgot to mention my roommate's folly of the day; he was surprised by a steep drop and accidently launched off it, slamming backwards into the ground at about 30mph (Thank God for the helmet).

The snow was just plain dangerous yesterday ~ 3 fresh inches over ice, and then rain all morning with minimal snowfall here and there.

My first attempt at wakeboarding sounds similar to your snowboard even. Did plenty of eyepeels that day. But it was all worth it, cause I still had fun.
