4K and VR. Is 3D officially dead ??

Seems like it to me. The one (and only) ever 3D channel here vanished a while ago. No other channnels were ever set up to support it. Yet so many people purchased 3D tv not too long ago, and was a major selling point with Sky at one point. Now it'seems it's gone. 3D movies in the cinema seem like a thing of the past now aswell. Not that I was ever interested in it anyway.

Everyone seems to be buying 4K tv's now so let's see how this goes.

VR seems to be ready to explode in a big way...

3D is dead - at least for home users - Samsung just announced to not implement it anymore in their TVs

    4K will be normal soon

VR is going to be big

3D or stereo? Stereo vision was dead from the very beginning.

My father in law bought a 65 inch 3d tv last year for the cabin. Ive watched a few movies up there in 3d with the rechargeable glasses.

I personally don't like it. I think its distracting and takes away from the plot/script. That could be just because I am not used to it.

I have 4k Televisions and would take those any day over a 3d TV. My wife also says 3d gives her a headache so it would never be a good option in my house.

That's how I always felt at the cinema. I was spending too much time looking for the 3D "wow" factor in certain scenes, that I was probably paying more attention to that than the movie itself...

I only watch 3d blu rays in 3D. Watching non 3d with the tv in 3d adds depth but it's not worth it. I own 10 3D blu rays and about 4 or 5 of them are amazing in 3d.

It's not for everyone just like I doubt I will like VR. I don't like things strapped to my head.

For porn it was never really "alive" ...so yeah, it's dead.

Glad to see 3D go. 99.9% of all of the 3D in movies suck. I love the IMAX format but most of the movies they show are still in 3D. Given the choice I would take 2D IMAX over 3D any time. It brings nothing to the experience.

I have a 3D TV at home and like Madalton, I used it exactly once. 6 months after I bought the TV actually.

VR though is another story. While the first attempts at VR died a long time ago, the new VR is slick, cheap, and really good.

I know what you're saying...but keep in mind, that is EXACTLY what was being said about 3D a few years back.

the headset is just an intermediary stage. ultimately you will be surrounded by holograms or the images will be beamed directly in your head.

I've had a 3D TV for almost 2 years now, used the 3D feature once to watch Avatar with my wife and a few friends one night. 4K will be big, the prices of the TVs are already dropping fast so that in itself will mean people will buy the TVs, we just need the networks to adopt it more widely. As always, most likely sports will be the first major networks to broadcast widely in 4K then the rest will follow.

Did you see Avatar in 3D IMAX? You can't tell me that didn't add to the experience cause it was amazing when I saw it in 3D IMAX

3d was never about porn and I knew it would never take off..

Maybe in 3-5 years they will make 3d without glasses and it will make a comeback.

But you know whatever.. Go stroke your little dicks to the thought of VR and electric cars.. I'm still happy with my 3d and my gas guzzling v-8

3D is dead for the moment.

VR has far more possibilities, and will be huge in the computer game world.
