Yup... That's Easter in the Eastern Europe.

Guys whip and splash single girls with cold water and whip called Korbac. No mercy! After that, girls thankfully give them some Easter Eggs, ribbon for their korbac and something to eat and drink! When your cousins are extra nice, they just toss you in the local river :D Damn, I love our traditions :D

I come from Slovakia (not Russia, like someone haven't noticed yet) But same tradition is in Slovakia, Poland, Czech rep, Hungary, Ukraine etc :D

yep, same here (hungary)

in rural areas it's still a big hoot, a day-long scavenge hunt of drunken young lads with buckets of water looking for girls to splash. eggs run here concurrently as a reward.
here in the city it's mostly a little splash of cheap cologne on top of the head and mostly for relatives/spouses only. rewards may vary.

Its a tradition dating to pre christian era... It has some relationship to ferility of the women and virlity of the men. Actually it can happen that a fertile woman who is not asked for her eggs and whipped a bit in the process gets upset, since the whole village would think that no man wants her....

Not downtown full of tourists, but go anywhere from the center and see 8 year old boys whacking little squelling girls... Its all over by late morning.
