War theory

Not sure if this has been discussed yet , but the refugee camps set up for civilians fleeing Iraq in Jordan- which were OVERFLOWING during the first gulf war, havn't received a SINGLE IRAQ citizen yet.

One would expect a FEW people at least - I think Sadam is holding innocent civialans IN BAGDAD not allowing them to escape so that when the war goes into that city there will be HEAVY citizen losses and his militaty will be able to hide amoung the civilian population and strike back at the Americans when they think are amoung friendlies... Sadam will play that up to the world media (civilian casualities) to make the Americans look bad and rally other Arab nations to join his fight.

Damn it I PRAY that's NOT what he's doing , but I think it is.

No way that NOONE would have fled the country yet unless they weren't FORCED to stay for some sinister reason.....

u also have to remember that the US did not take the electric power etc. out yet I think once that goes things will change, if noone ends up going it would be pretty cool to stay at one of those camps for a weekend all by myself maybe with some hot mid east chic (wonder if they have DSL there)

power or no power - Ask yourself this. Would YOU stay in Bagdad if bombs were going off all over the place?

The analysis that I have heard and agree with is the people are simply scared. They dont know if the usa will go all the way this time, so they sure dont want to show that they are anti saddam until they know it is completely safe.

I believe in that theory and put nothing past Saddam, posting "human shield" displays on rooftops oughta tell ya what he will do. BUt seriously does anyone think that we have given Saddam all we got? No fuckin way, in all seriousness this war could have been aleviated in 48 hrs without any consequenses to the Iraqi civilians. I think it lends a hand to how the US is going about the overtaking. I would also love to know the average age of the members of this board. I am willing to bet they are very young gen-x'ers who have yet to leave their mommas basement but think they have the answers to foreign policy. What a fuckin joke

Well seeing that the people aren't being targetted and an Iraqi doctor claimed only 7 people were killed maybe, just maybe they realize that it is the regime that is being targetted and not the people.

Moreover, I doubt that they are going to take out the power in Baghdad.

Dude, I really hope you are right about only 7 civilians being killed but I don't see it being possible.

If you live in Iraq right now and remember 10 years ago than you remember that

The USA told Iraqies to revolt against their government
The USA left
All those Iraqies who revolted where killed and the Kurds were gased (example?)

So uhm, if I would live in Iraq right now and have a family (kids, etc)
I would stay put
I would be on Saddams site
I would wait until I see his dead body
I would wait until there is a new government and the USA has really really liberated me from the devil

Until than, I would protect my family and stay put.

Saddam said to "his people" that for each person who revolts against him, their tongue would be cut out and the family would be killed.

I would be very very scared and fear for my life and the life of my family.

So, to make it short ,, They are probably scared shitless and even more scared to say anything ..

I would be!

Generation X usually refers to the years from 1961-1975.

While the media has attempted to co-opt it for anyone born from 1961 to around the early 80's it just doesn't fit.

The years 1961-1975 refer more to birth patterns rather than age...kinda hard to lump in people with 20+ years age difference together as a "generation."

I saw a feed from Iraqi TV. If they had more they would have shown them I'm sure. There were 150 injuries. But they wouldn't go into the amount of millitary deaths, or show the millitary hospital.

Hmmm so pre Gen-X would be Gen-Prehistoric?! Maybe THAT is why my puppy looked like a brontosaurus when I was little!!

There was a mention somewhere over the last couple of hours that Jordan just got or are getting some refugees, but they are probably from Northern Iraq. A NBC guy said the other day, Wednesday or Thursday maybe, that quite a few left Baghdad in their cars and trucks.

Maybe the refugee camps are empty, but Iraqi's have certainly fled to Jordan as I have seen several interviewed on TV. I do suspect that attempts will be made by the Republican Gaurd to prevent a mass exit from the city, as the civilians are their best defense, but of course I do not know this.

Yes, I have seen reports from the Minister of Information being broadcast on Iraqi TV and only a few hundred civilians are being reported as injured and this also includes some from cities other than Baghdad.

This coming from someone who thinks we could have swooped into Iraq, destroyed Saddam's regime and accomplished all our other goals in 48 hours with one deft masterstroke with no civilian casualties and no consequences for the Iraqi citizens. Being older does not, apparently, make you wiser.

It still doesn't make sense that nobody would cross the border. If you have kids at home, and especially in light of the experience they endured of stray munitions from the last Gulf War, you would imagine at minimum some folks would make the decision to get the hell out of the way when bombs are coming down on your town.
