I was very happy to see people boo his ass off the stage. That spectacle just confirms that his "documentary" was completely biased. What happened to unbiased documentaries that allow the viewer to make their own decision about the issues.

Michael Moore has his own forum to promote his own agenda. I loved also how he poined out that the other guy involved in making the film was Canadian.

I never heard him call Bush an idiot. Disagree with him all you like, but don't put words in his mouth.

Sarah_Jayne 03-23-2003 10:40 PM

atleast he has the balls to say something be belives in rather than being quieted by the 'fear' of not working again.

Michael Moore's acceptance speech:

On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this.

I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to ? they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction.

We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times.

We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president.

We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons.

Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush.

Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you.

And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up.

Thank you very much.

"No, I don't. Why should I? How can there be inaccuracy in comedy?"

Moore is nothing more than a humorist with a bent towards satire. I am amazed at how many people seem to have come to take him seriously.

Yeah, that is so much braver. Having an strong view - regardless of wether others think about it - and not taking your chance to stand up and be counted when they world's eyes are on you.

Notice how they gave Susan Sarandon in a place where she couldn't mouth off without distracting from her job.

Btw..Colin Firth...anyone speak Gaelic and know what he said before he introduced U2? Curious.

sacX 03-23-2003 11:11 PM

did anyone seriously think MM wasn't going to say something?

Does anyone disagree that the US have more murders by handguns than other civilised countries?

Seemed like an interesting/useful topic for a documentary. See I just thought US had more guns than other countries and that explained it. His spin was that the media play a role. The basic points he made in the film were good, sure he gets preachy though.

At the Spirit Awards he got about as many "yeah's as he did boo's". I just don't understand why anyone takes Moore seriously. He is a humorist and does not take himself seriously. He is about entertaining and has found his niche.

CNN preaches bullshit into millions of houses everynight. He can say whatever he wants. Free speech is what iraqi's dont have, or so I'm told. US looks to be almost as much of a dictatorship if you can speak your mind only if its popular...many winners had good things to say about the war but we arnt discussing them.

one of the best things about freedom of speech is that it exposes idiots like moore. All you had to do was give him a little rope.
When you get booed off the most liberal stage in America because of your liberal rant, you really get an idea about how out of touch you are.:1orglaugh

When somebody has the guts to take an unpopular but heartfelt stance against both Republicans and Democrats, he earns my respect.

That includes people like Moore, and it includes people like Pat Buchanan, who I strongly disagree with, but admire his convictions.

He had the courage to stand up for his convictions in front of millions of people. I wonder how many keyboard warriors in here would have the balls to do the same ??:2 cents:

I watched the awards for like 20min...and caught this part....

I have to admit I was pretty impressed....and when they cut to the crowds faces....you can tell some of those people wanted to cheer.....but they would only get work in the Michael Moore film, lol and thats it!!!

You can now guarantee that about 3million more people will go to see the next 'documentary' he makes just to see what this guy is all about (for those that had never heard of him)

Whether he meant to or not...he just reassured the success of his new couple of films, pure marketing genius or just your usual pompous fanatic?

Why? He won an award for expressing his opinions and views on gun violence in America, then they boo him for expressing his opinions about our violence upon Iraq???

Sounds to me this is more about love for GWB. Millions can protest the war, that's okay.....but damn those who disagree with Bush??

Looks to be? What country are you looking at?

Did the government threaten Michael Moore? Are they going to kill him? Is his family in danger by the government?

No.

Did he piss off a lot of people? I would imagine so. Did he piss off the producers and directors? I would imagine so.

How does any of this deny him Freedom of Speech? The Academy Awards is not a public event. If it was, I would be there. It's a private event. They can restrict Freedom of Speech all they want. The directors and producers don't want that shit on their hands. Can you blame them? Isn't that THEIR right?

I think Nicole Kidman was trying to say something as well, but she skirted the issue, and youre right, working on a Moore film will not pay the huge bucks some of these guys make.
