If I place my cell phone on my desk, and have my speakers on, the speakers go completely ape shit with a bunch of feedback and annoying sounds right before I get a call, text, or notification. So fucking annoying having to put my cell all the way on the other side of my office if I want to listen to music.

Does this happen to anyone else? Can it be fixed?

Basically there's s non-linear circuit element in the phone, like a transistor or diode, and if it's near a strong pulsing radio signal it will act as a rectifier. If the pulsation is in the range of your speakers, you'll hear what you're hearing. (Something like that, I know there's a technical detail or two that I'm missing..)

yup 2006 called and they want their cell phone and speakers back! It use to happen all the time and I knew I was getting a text before I got one but that was pre android phones for me.. before 2009.

Technically it's the GSM frequency range, a stone age Nokia would do it too. They do have sheilded speakers that fix the problem. Once you get a phone from the last decade or so it probably won't be an issue anymore as they use different frequency ranges.

I used to get that on an Android phone from AT&T
Haven't gotten it in years on iPhone 4S, 5S, 6 on Verizon

So not sure if it was Android or AT&T causing the issue
