Did Bush really just say what I think he said?

Did Bush just say we've made great progress, we've secured all the oil fields in the south?

God when he goes off the teleprompter and prepared scripts he really blows it bad.

What a dumbass comment to make in light of everything.

You bet he did. He's also made mention of the OIL in just about every speech he's made this week.

But it's not about the oil right?

Most of my pro-war friends started wondering why things aren't going like they thought they would in the beginning. They're all wondering where the importance of liberating the people comes in. I just hate to say I told them so

maybe if you guys open up your brains for one second
to many of you think emotionally and not logically

could it be possible the OIL is what the Iraqi people would need to rebuild their government and economy. I am sure no doubt that some of it will also be used to pay a considerable amount to this war also, If the US doesn't it'll be quite stupid wouldn't you think?
and if they do not secure the OIL fields would it be possible that Saddam will burn up the oil fields

War is a terrible means to justify an end, however I, like the majority of Americans remember September 11th and feel the need to honor my friends and family, innocently massacred that day. I ask those that oppose the war, "How many relatives did you have in the Towers, Pentagon or planes that day? And what is your solution?" I will not forget!

YES, he totally just said that and I thought he was about to start giggling when he said it and do a little 'Chandler happy dance'

WTF?!!

totally bad timing to get gleeful about some petty shit like that, only reason I agree it's a good thing that they secured the southern oil fields is to avert some nasty ecological problems that we saw the last time they blew those open....

Well that doesn't matter to me because I don't believe this war is about terror. Keeping WMD out of the hands of terrorists means alot more than a regime change in Iraq. Come on, every other country hates us. Look at Kuwait. Most of the civilians there are happy to see the USA get attacked. If we're truly against terror, we're gonna have to nuke the whole middle east.

Dont base your knowledge of Kuwait on a handfull of sadam supporters out of millions of people that are very greatfull of the US.

Seems your pro-war friends are not the sharpest tools in the box (imho). What did they think? That war is a video game? That if you die you press "Replay"? War is ugly. Tell them to stop playing video games and live in the real world. This is a world where the leader you are directly or indirectly protecting is encouraging his forces to execute POWs and videotape it to show the world. Its a place where they send the citizens to hunt POWs with guns - shooting into the rivers and dancing with joy.
Your "friends" live in a bubble. One that is maintained by the same president that you are protesting against

To take control of the oil fields was vital, for multiple reasons, and was a major goal of the campaign. It is my understanding that the Southern and Norhtern oil fields are under coalition control.

Hm, someone who actually seems to get it. Saddam and the Iraqi army are setting those things on fire. Doesn't it make sense that if they think lighting their oil on fire, we who are fighting them would want to stop that from happening?

Close your mouths and open your brains. It isn't like we can cart off billions of gallons of oil when the war is done. That oil isn't going anywhere and without it, Iraq has NO ECONOMY after the war.

If we were setting them on fire, all we would hear is "Evil Americans are setting the poor Iraqi's oil on fire! It's all about the oil!"

Instead we hear "Evil Americans are stopping the Iraqis from lighting the oil on fire! It's all about the oil!"

Blah, blah, blah.
