I scraped GFY about 1.5 years ago from the first threads up to about 2012. After parsing the raw web pages I ran queries on it.

At it's peak, circa 2005-2006, this forum got in the midish 25-26k posts per day (if I recall correctly).

I'd ultimately like to build a desktop app with something like Electron and make a forum notifier that talks to a database and notifies people. Far easier said than done

. Forum owners would love it as it could create an addictive notification to revisit the forum.

For this it's just Sequel Pro connecting to Mamp on a iMac with a SSD drive, if you ever parse a lot of text files make sure you do it on a SSD drive.

Parsed with Python and using the pure Python library "beautiful soup 4".

Not the most elegant parse but they are/were messy documents. Took close to a week. I'm sure a low level parser could do it in a couple hours but I could care less.
