Mild spoilers ... It was a good ol' zombie stomp. My favorite part was Darrel RPGing the Negan gang.
So, they killed a mass of Walkers by setting the lake on fire. Hey, the Walkers are attracted to the bright light and simply marched in and burned up. Saved the day!
But in season 2, they set Hershel's barn on fire when the walker horde approached. None of the walkers on the outside moved toward the barn fire. They walked away from the huge fire.
It's interesting to go back and watching the first few seasons. The walkers could almost run at times, turn door knobs, use stones to break glass - and weren't attracted to fire.

Those are sort of perpetuum mobile, they don't need to eat to move. So it would be wise to use them as free power generators. Just tie them to the dynamo machine and voilà! Also they don't completely rot for some unknown reason. Even when a half of their brain has rotted, they still can move, but if someone pierce their heads with a thin toothpick, they instantly die.
