How to "clean" a domain?

I've a site thats adult but it's not doing too well and i'm thnking about going in a mainstream direction with it as it's a very good mainstream domain name. The trouble is that if i was to go mainstream with it, it'll be focused at the younger surfer so i'll need to erase it's history as best i can ... but how?

Cheers.

Semen Stain Removal from Domains
  • 1. Scrape off the hard stuff with a dull knife.
  • 2. Blot the domain with cold water and a paper towel. Since semen is a protein, avoid hot water, as it will set the stain.
  • 3. Create a dishwasher detergent and cold water mix and blot.
  • 4. Blot domain with cold water and paper towel.

HTH, OP

If you really wanted to keep the domain I guess you could change owners, name servers, and host. Make it look like you sold it to someone else, and they repurposed it.

There's no way you will be able to remove historical records like WHOIS from everywhere on the net.

^Seems like the best option. Push the domain to a different registrar too

i'm not so much concerned about historical whois and things like that, i was thinking more like the sites and filters that deem a site 18+

thanks for the advice though

I'd love to know, as I have a few non adult sites which come up as adult.

add and verify site in GWT,
host it on some VPS.
put up a standard mainstream site coming soon or something like that, single page
do 301 redirect from all non existent pages to index page.
allow all bots in robots, to crawl and index.
wait few days , google will start to show that there are problems with the pages in GWT ,
go in GWT mark all non accessible pages, click FIXED,
wait 24 hours , repeat above step.

do last 2 steps until all pages are gone from GWT .

wait a week.

upload new mainstream site and you are good to go.

addionally you can ask the same qustion on Google webmaster forum.

It's a tough long road, mi Manito. I lost a nice chunk of change trying to optimize a domain that was blacklisted as a SPAM domain. That was a couple years ago, and I gave up researching how to fix it. When it wasn't ranking after a month, I got suspicious and started to investigate. And that's when everything went south. Good luck, and if you find a way, please share. Stoka said robots.txt, but I'm not sure how that can scrub what's already archived.

It is not possible to hide the past of a domain.

I've no idea, I'd try something cheap like delete all the porn, let it 404.

Flood it with autoposts using different news/sports feeds and maybe that will get your percentage of porn down over a few months.

Then you have to deal with a Panda/thin content problem, but that's managable and a known.

I don't know but I have a feeling it could work and it's quite a cheap and low risk strategy. Use your Google indexing with site:yourdomain.com with safesearch turned on as a metric.

Edit: What does your link profile look like though?

Let us know,
Paz.
