This is a bit misleading. The "Metaverse" was always something different to "VR", and especially of course VR porn, which this thread was about.

They are shifting resources to AI and AI/AR/Smart glasses because those glasses are shipping like hot cakes. And guess what you can do with them? Watch movies (and porn) on big virtual screens just like in VR, including with realtime 3D conversion. Or soon, walk around 3D "holographic" girls.

In any case, VR porn is as popular as it has been for the last 5 years and more. I know of not one single major VR porn studio that has closed, and new ones are still appearing. The roadblock for VR has always been the bulky headsets, but the rapid development of smart glasses will mean that VR headsets will soon merge with the glasses.

the main downside of vr was that the headsets were bulky. if they were the size of glasses, the whole thing might have be successful. My beloved Meta Quest, sorry to see you go.
