    Malaga, Mijas, Marbella, Gib ?

Seriously considering moving there (in 6-12 months).

Fuengirolas, Mijas and Benalmadena SEEMS to be the best choice as it's right in between Malaga and Marbella, and it seems still pretty busy in the winter (not a ghost town i mean, which is definitely what i DON'T want). But i could consider Malaga or Marbella as well, just need more opinions.

Anyone living full time over there ?
Any thoughts on what is the best city on Costa del Sol ?
Quality and defects of the city you are in ?

Gotta be Marbella/Costa Del Sol - they getting Fibre Optic broadband soon I hear plus you see some fine birds over there. Me want a place in the hills of Marbella. Watch that doc Piers Morgan on Marbella, its pretty good (the view OMG) (HD version is better of course)

Malaga is a decent sized city, population doesn't really change through the year.

All the rest, you hit dead times in the off season.

          Malaga and Marbella suck.
Benalmadena has its charm, but most of that coast is just plastic made for tourists...
          but if that's your taste.....

Why would you move to this area for 6-12 months? maybe 3 months in the summer then after that you will be 1 of 10 people in the entire area.

of course, you could come to the Spanish holiday destination of Spain, Torrevieja.. Just south of Alicante, you have La Manga, the worlds largest lagoon! It's always fun, with plenty of night life & warmer waters

Any resort will be dead in winter. Look at the cities.

I lived in Alicante for years, all year round it's active, but San Juan(the next town) closes down in winter.

No, Torrevieja is filled with bars still open until 2 in the morning & much more night & day life than the bars. Yes the waterparks are closed, but hey, it's 15 to 20 cent at the moment, and i'm not interested in splashing around atm

The La zenia strip & all around here is always lively all year round with all ages, majority of middle age, 30's to 40's

The Orihuela costa has been voted "cleanest air in Europe" for many years in a row & with only 6 or 7 days of rain a year, is the driest area to live also!

The south of Alicante, North of Murcia has exceptional night life, the sea's warmer than any other part of the coast because the warmth & the position on the med.

plastic? The marina, beaches & the streets, they're all new... you need to come back before you say anything about Torrevieja... although, plastic it has never been. With the salt lakes, orange & lemon groves, clean waters &so many bars & restaurants giving free drinks & food while you enjoy your life here, it's one of the only places in the world I'd like to be

only someone that didnt see any decent/ beautiful beach OR comes from a country with a weather like UK can name this beach as beautiful....
yet, I've been always wondering why so many British people are here...
Spain is a charming country, thats for sure (mostly outside turist traps like Marbella, Torrevieja, Torremolinos, Alicante and so on), but when it comes to beaches - its nothing special....

I like Marbella. It has a nice marina (Puerto Banus). There live many rich people. Is expensive (if it is a criterion). It has a nice old town and many restaurants. Beautiful villas to rent.

Spain's got great beaches, but mainly on the Atlantic coast.

and that beach is called Poo.

with so many beaches & the average temperature of 26 degree, I still say Spain is a great place to live

as for the beaches - I prefer them to be 30-35 celsius degrees, with water calm like in swimming pool, without jellyfish and far away from so called civilisation. I don't think that I will find something like that in Spain :>

26 is average temperature , all summer, from late April until early November, there's maybe 3 or 4 days of rain, the rest of the months are 30 to 35, sometimes, peaking 40. The beaches are busy near Torrevieja, although, on a small walk, you can find coves with pleasant warm waters, no jelly fish & soft sands.

La Manga, about 10 miles south has soft sands, the water is salty & flat, full of lovely colored fish & sea horses, no jelly fish

ahh yes, maybe the Indian ocean could be a couple of degrees warmer, alas, the med keeps is much warmer than the other seas of the world. It's usually roasting in summer, like a warm bath. In fact, last year gone, the swimming pool was so hot, it was hard to breath when swimming, it was literally like a jacuzzi

I never thought it would be possible to miss the point so much

The point of living in Spain is to live a "normal" life in a sunny country with decent beaches you can use 8 months/year.

Sure the carribbeans have nicer beaches, but do you want to live in Dominican Rep or freaking Antigua and Barbuda with criminality, mosquitoes, and shit ? Well i don't. And all the ones who tried came back within a year... Cause you get bored as hell there, there is ONLY nice beaches

Yes we all know there are nicer beaches than Spain (thank you google images) but the whole point is to find a place where you can actually live a normal life in a civilised country which has other assets than offshore banking...

And for that, Spain is just plain awesome
